Responsibilities
- Execute the deployment of simple and some complex IT systems, network hardware and software and ensuring that systems are functioning properly upon installation.
- Familiarity with types of cabling, interfaces and accurate connectivity to other devices.
- The work may involve intermediate periods of walking, bending, stooping, lifting, carrying, moving (up to 50 pounds} computer components and supplies, reaching, pulling, and working at a keyboard and monitor.
- Assist with equipment inventory.
- Assist with equipment shipping.
- Assist with staging equipment.
- Acts as a primary liaison with critical persons and/or groups within and outside of the organization.
- Performs work on major issues, program goals and objectives, work processes, and administrative operations of the organization
- Provides support to the Assistant Chief, Network Field Operations - LAN in coordinating and developing the programs and functions relative to tasking and support for the Staging Center efforts.
- Works with staff members to develop appropriate responses to equipment Requests and correspondence.
- Travel will be estimated at the equivalent of about 50% per month per year and Network Engineers must follow VA's and TISTA's Travel expense.
Qualifications
- Able to evaluate network design and configuration baselines and standards.
- Able to work at an enterprise level and in cross-functional teams to assist with the development of strategic and enterprise plans.
- Ability to solve issues that arise on site.
- Able to deploy and execute based on written and verbal instruction.
- Knowledge of Cisco LAN 9500 and 9300s recommended.
- Able to create plans encompassing materiel maintenance, distribution, and replacement.
- Must be able to conduct targeted review of status and identify points of risk, and be able to identify alternative strategies for addressing and mitigating risk.
- Must have great, customer-focused, team-oriented communications and consultative skills, be highly accountable, be self-directed and productive with strong work ethic, be willing to show "presence" and availability on IM during business hours.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, electronics engineering or related technical discipline and 5+ years' work experience.
- Eight (8) years of additional relevant experience may be substituted for education (13 years total).
