Position Description

University Title: Human Resource Specialist Sr (4354)
Working Title: HR Benefits Specialist

Purpose and Scope
The University of Missouri System Human Resources dedicated HR team provides leadership in the planning, integration, and implementation of human resource services and programs for faculty and staff across all campuses and the health system. Collectively with our campus colleagues, we serve as strategic and trusted advisor. Pursue continuous improvement through knowledge, collaboration and leadership.

This position supports the University of Missouri's human resources strategic priorities and initiatives and has key responsibilities for serving as a point of contact for UM System faculty, staff, and retirees across all campuses and the health system. As part of the Benefits team, this position provides essential support to daily human resources processing, serving over 50,000 active & separated employees, retirees, beneficiaries and dependents.

Responsibilities

50% Responsible for administrative of UM sponsored life insurance benefits, LTD W-2 reporting, COBRA audits, and Medicare vendor reports to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Knowledge of policies, research of information, data verification, identification of discrepancies and solutions, and interaction with customers, other departments, and vendors is essential.

* Submit and process life insurance claims for active and retiree populations.
* Review vendor reports for coverage accuracy; process corrections as needed.
* Process employee life insurance coverage requests with vendor.
* Communicate with employees regarding benefit coverage.
* Review employee demographic information with vendor and reconcile information with PeopleSoft.
* Create Journal Entries in Financial System.
* Administer and manage vendor self-billing processes.

40% Provide tier two customer service support and problem-solving regarding benefit plan offerings, eligibility, deadlines and processes.
* Areas of knowledge and customer inquiries include matters pertaining to all Summary Plan Descriptions (SPD's), coverage and eligibility including
o Custom Network, PPO, HSA's, Retiree Health Plans, COBRA, and Medicare eligibility.
o Accidental Death and Dismemberment, Dental, Vision, Flexible Benefits, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability; and
* Provide professional, collegial and inclusive dialogue to create effective solutions in a timely manner; May escalate complex issues to supervisor.
* Respond to inquiries within 24-48 hours; Maintain documentation and process tickets to ensure accurate tracking of issue and resolutions
* Use of good judgement, excellent written and verbal communication skills, computer skills, and continual independent learning of benefit and retirement plans, knowledge of HIPAA, and University of Missouri policies is essential to ensure and maintain professional knowledge and provide sound credible advice.

10% Identify and streamline processes for benefit administration as well as work with cross-functional teams to identify improvements to processes that cross between functional areas.
* Identify potential concerns and minimize user disruption by testing benefit programs in the HRIS system:
o Eligibility Files
o Annual Enrollment and Life Events
o System Upgrades
o System data clean-up

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current and emerging University of Missouri human resources policies and practices.

As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities may be expected in order to support the mission and purpose of the University of Missouri.

Shift

Monday - Friday, 8:00 - 5:00pm

Minimum Qualifications

A bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and three years of human resources office experience demonstrating exceptional customer service, basic benefit administration, organizational skills, and proficient computer skills (including Excel and PeopleSoft or equivalent).

Demonstrated experience with providing exceptional verbal and written communication to a variety of customers, problem solving skills, attention to detail, accuracy and ability to follow through independently.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $65,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year

Grade: GGS-010
