Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Veterinary Technician (Veterinary Anesthesia/Surgical) for the Office for Research. The Office for Research's mission is to support the research, scholarship, and creative endeavors of all Rutgers faculty. The Office accomplishes its mission by convening with academic and research leaders, providing integrated, user-focused resources, services, and tools, and partnering with faculty. As part of the Office for Research, this position provides veterinary anesthesia and surgical support for the University. Working in close collaboration with university veterinarians, the Veterinary Services Manager, and the Vice President, this individual supports procedures involving a wide range of animal species and ensures compliance with regulatory standards governing controlled substance use.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
- Functions as the lead technician on procedure days.
- Assists in surgeries.
- Monitors patients under anesthesia.
- Prepares anesthesia dose sheets.
- Maintains operating suites for USDA-covered species.
- Performs treatments.
- Carries out diagnostic tasks typical of both veterinary clinical care and research environments.
- Trains, observes, and monitors research personnel to uphold procedural standards.
- Performs a broad range of duties typical of both veterinary clinical care and research setting.

Qualifications
| Minimum Education and Experience |
- Bachelor's degree preferably in veterinary technology, biology, animal science, or other related science and two years of experience in a laboratory or animal care facility preferably including work in both small animal veterinary practices and the animal research environment or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience; or an Associate of Applied Science degree in Veterinary Technology from an accredited veterinary technician program, current certification as an RVT, LVT or CVT, plus two years of experience in a laboratory or animal care facility.

- Certification by the American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) at the level of animal technician (LAT or LATg).
- A valid driver's license would be required for this position.

- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to walk to and through various sites.
- Ability to stand or walk on hard surfaces for most of the workday.
- Twisting of upper trunk, repetitive and overhead lifting and reaching.
- The work environment includes potential exposure to zoonotic diseases, and the use of hazardous and restricted chemicals.
- Exposure to animals and hazardous substances.
