Market Focus: Infrastructure and fire-safety applications in commercial and transit environments

The Applications Engineer is a key member of the sales team, serving as the bridge between technical expertise and practical application. This role leverages a deep understanding of engineering principles to deliver solutions that meet specific customer needs.

The Applications Engineer works independently and collaboratively with customers, sales teams, and internal functions to assess requirements, design solutions, and provide technical support. This role extends beyond conventional engineering, translating complex technical concepts into clear, actionable information for diverse audiences.

The Applications Engineer supports business growth by identifying and pursuing new opportunities, building relationships with engineering firms, technical influencers, specifiers, installers, and OEM customers to promote the full range of wire and cable solutions for upcoming projects and ongoing design specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Customer, Sales Support, and Deliverables
  • Partner with the sales team to understand customer needs, technical requirements, and develop specifications, solutions, quotations, and technical submittals.

  • Provide technical expertise during pre- and post-sales phases, including design, cost estimating, and troubleshooting/resolution.

Product Development & Customization
  • Customize products to meet customer specifications.

  • Conduct testing and validation to ensure product performance and reliability.

  • Support new product development by collecting customer feedback and translating project requirements.

  • Stay current with industry trends, competitor offerings, and emerging technologies to enhance product solutions.

Presentations, Demonstrations, and Deliverables
  • Develop and deliver product demonstrations, presentations, and technical data to communicate value and drive specifications.

Relationship Building & Business Development
  • Act as a liaison between customers and internal teams, advocating customer needs and providing product feedback.

  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including engineering firms, authorities having jurisdiction, contractors, transit authorities, and OEMs.

  • Develop and present technical specifications tailored to customer requirements.

Competitive Intelligence
  • Support the Product Manager in identifying and analyzing competitive offerings, performance data, and positioning strategies.

Documentation & Marketing
  • Develop technical documentation, training materials, white papers, case studies, and application notes.

  • Collaborate with Product Management and Marketing teams to create technical collateral and resources.

Representation & Travel
  • Represent Marmon Electrical at industry conferences, association meetings, and customer events.

  • Travel as needed (typically 40-60%) to support sales and engineering initiatives.

Teamwork & Other Responsibilities
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with peers, managers, and other departments as needed.

  • Perform additional tasks and projects as assigned by management.

Education and Experience (Preferred):

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in copper and/or fiber wire and cable.

  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

  • Entrepreneurial, positive, and creative mindset.

  • Proven success in managing customer relationships and delivering technical solutions.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a results-driven mindset.

  • Willingness to travel up to 60%.

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work extended hours in a sedentary, computer-based position.

  • Must be able to lift and move materials up to 25 lbs.

  • Ability to collaborate within a manufacturing environment and adhere to safety protocols, including wearing required PPE.

  • Frequent domestic and international travel required.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods.

  • Ability to hear and communicate clearly during meetings and phone conversations.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Work is performed primarily in an air-conditioned and/or heated office environment.
