Summary:

The Manager, Medical Staff Operations provides leadership, direction, and oversight for Medical Staff Services across MaineHealth. This role is responsible for supervising Medical Staff Specialists and Lead Specialists and ensuring the effective and compliant execution of onboarding, privileging, peer review coordination, and medical staff governance processes across all MaineHealth hospitals.

Reporting to the Senior Director, Credentialing & Medical Staff Services, the Manager serves as a key member of the department leadership team and is accountable for translating system-wide strategy into standardized operational practices. The Manager collaborates closely with internal and external stakeholders including credentialing, compliance, legal, and medical staff leadership to ensure timely and accurate credentialing-related activities, regulatory readiness, and operational excellence.

This position works in partnership with peer leaders to support the implementation of MaineHealth's regional governance model, optimize workflows across entities, and contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at improving quality, efficiency, and provider experience.

Required Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs)

  1. Education: Bachelor's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or a related field required. Master's degree preferred.
  2. License/Certifications: Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) or Certified Professional in Medical Services Management (CPMSM) required. Must obtain certification within one year of hire if not already held.
  3. Experience:Minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in credentialing, medical staff services, or healthcare operations, including at least two years in a supervisory or management role. Experience in a multi-entity or health system environment strongly preferred.
  4. Additional Skills/ Requirements Required: Strong working knowledge of credentialing, privileging, medical staff governance, and peer review requirements, including those outlined by The Joint Commission, CMS, and NCQA. Demonstrated experience managing high-volume, multi-entity medical staff operations in a complex health system. Proven ability to lead teams, delegate effectively, and coach for performance in both remote and in-person environments. Knowledge of credentialing technology systems and workflows, including proficiency in CredentialStream or similar platforms. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build strong relationships and influence across diverse stakeholder groups. Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and drive process improvements aligned with system goals and regulatory requirements. High level of organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Additional Skills/ Requirements Preferred: Experience supporting Medical Staff Bylaws, governance processes, and provider onboarding programs preferred
