The Opportunity

Our USGO East Operations team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Virginia to support the operation, maintenance, testing, and inspection of our natural gas pipelines and associated facilities throughout Suffolk and the surrounding area.

We are seeking a skilled Pipeline Technician who possesses knowledge and experience of high-pressure natural gas pipeline systems, gas measurement facilities, and other related equipment.

This individual must be a self-starter, capable of working with minimal supervision, who possesses strong analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills.

What you'll do

  • Plan and lead pipeline isolation and gas handling activities including blowing down, purging and pressuring pipelines and the installation and operation of air movers/expellers
  • Perform inspections, troubleshooting and repair on equipment such as actuators, valves, stem seals, and other related component
  • Independently operate and maintain natural gas pipelines and associated equipment
  • Assist with various tasks associated with in-line inspection programs
  • Perform One Call line locates
  • Assist with all types of line crossings (foreign or seismic) of TC Energy pipeline assets
  • Complete basic "as built" prints and update related documentation with respect to One Call and pipeline related schematics
  • Identify encroachment issues
  • Communicate with contractors, the general public, landowners, and government agencies relative to gas operations
  • Operate company truck, ATV or side-by-side to perform operation and maintenance duties
  • Read and interpret alignment sheets
  • Lead/manage the safe and efficient completion of low complexity projects to include the coordination and monitoring of contractor work activities or third-party active control
  • Assist with general pipeline right-of-way (ROW) maintenance activities such as erosion or sink hole repairs, line patrols, and installation of identification signs and posts
  • Landscaping duties to include trimming, grass cutting, etc.
  • Perform gas leak surveys
  • Operate compressor engines and support equipment
  • Assist in full or partial gas compressor overhauls and maintenance and other auxiliary equipment
  • Perform general housekeeping duties for company facilities
  • Other tasks as required

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Experience in a related industry or discipline

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience repairing pipeline leaks and locating and marking pipelines
  • Knowledge of reciprocating compressors, turbines, and stand by generators
  • Experience with valve operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair
  • Experience operating and maintaining high pressure natural gas pipelines and/or facilities
  • Valid Class A commercial driver's license or the ability to obtain the license post hire
  • Mechanical knowledge, skills, and experience
  • SAP experience

This position requires candidates to

  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and a safe driving record
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather, temperatures and lifting
