The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

The Division of Pediatric Gastroenterology in the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons of Columbia University has an exciting opportunity to join as a Nurse Practitioner in the outpatient setting. The Nurse Practitioner will focus both on Bariatric & Weight Management (80% of time) as well as General Pediatric Gastroenterology (20% of time). Conducting both independent clinical sessions and physician-supervised sessions, the Nurse Practitioner will provide specialized care, patient care coordination and parent and patient education.

Responsibilities

Clinical:



  • Care of Bariatric & Weight Management patients (80% of time) as well as general pediatric Gastroenterology patients (20% of time) in the out-patient setting.
  • Conduct four independent clinical sessions and two physician-supervised sessions per week.
  • History-taking, physical examinations, and clinical decision making.
  • Management of enteral nutrition and devices, including nasogastric, gastrostomy, and jejunostomy tubes.
  • Central line access.
  • Triage and management of telephone calls from parents about active symptoms as well as lab and test results.
  • Patient and parent education.
  • Cross-coverage of NPs and physicians.
  • Patient care coordination with home care agencies, medical device companies and schools.


Administrative:



  • Development of protocols for safe delivery of patient care and efficient operations of Division.
  • Ordering of appropriate medication, nutritional's, and supplies.
  • Secure approvals from insurance companies.
  • Performs related duties & responsibilities as assigned/requested.


Minimum Qualifications



  • Requires Master's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus two years of related experience.


Preferred Qualifications



  • Experience in Pediatrics and/or Pediatric Gastroenterology.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication ability.
  • Bilingual in Spanish and English.


Other Requirements



  • Current New York State NP and RN License.
  • NP Board Certification.
  • DEA License.
  • BCLS and PALS certification.
