The Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies (FOCs) has a need for a Environmental Specialist to support Facilities Operations & Maintenance (O&M) our government customer located in NORCO, CA.

The candidate will be responsible for the monitoring and management of environmental resources, plans and conditions by conducting field tests, inspecting accumulation points, hazmat lockers and moving & prepare waste for shipping. Collect samples of soil, water, and air to detect pollution or contamination, ensuring compliance with environmental regulations. Additionally, they help gather technical data for reports as well as respond to spills to stop or help mitigate any environmental damage and support environmental remediation projects.

DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for the facilitation of all operations and practices associated with solid waste, hazardous materials/waste, waste minimization, recycling, ensuring that the program is in compliance with all federal, state, and local environmental regulations. Essential duties & job functions would include but are not limited to:

  • Assist Government personnel with inspection, audit, and support visits, which require administration and customer service support at all locations supported.

  • Maintain inspection/audit schedules on calendar and provide any conflicts to the Government COR or TPOC's for actions.

  • Provide and update information/context for customer notification letters of upcoming and completion of inspections.

  • Record inspection details, status, and follow-up inspection results into the process inspection database.

  • Record all deficiencies discovered during inspection/audit in the Government provided IT tool ARCHIBUS.

  • Assist Government personnel to manage environmental programs outlined in Office of the Chief of Naval Operations (OPNAV) Environmental Readiness Program Manual; and the NAVSEA Environmental Readiness Program Manual), such as the Naval Weapons Station Seal Beach Hazardous Waste Management.

  • Assists Government with site specific requirements by supporting data collection and entry.

  • Provide technical and analytical consultation; environmental training courses; and manage inspections/audits schedules.

  • Works closely with the Program Manager (PM) to ensure conformance to all environmental requirements outlined in the SOW

  • Works closely with the Program Manager (PM) to maintain a safe work environment.

  • Works closely with the safety Specialist in identifying and resolving all safety and environmental issues.

  • Works closely with the safety Specialist in identifying proper PPE requirements.

  • Ability to give training to the all-site staff on Haz Waste communications, handling, and IAP protocol.

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, as well as present training to small groups of employees.

  • Preform record keeping tasks and document reports associated with environmental programs.

  • Establish and maintain records for company environmental training program.

  • Conduct inspections and maintain the waste and hazmat storage areas.

  • Conducts environmental sampling and prepares samples for shipping.

  • Ensure employees follow waste minimization practices and waste handling procedures at points of generation.

  • Participates in emergency spill response situations.

  • Observes and follows all safety rules and procedures, including wearing required personal safety equipment.

  • Keeps the Program Manager and Facilities Supervisor apprised of unique situations and problems encountered.

  • Ensure proper housekeeping practices are strictly observed.

  • Complete required monthly safety and equipment training.

  • Assists the Program Manager and Safety Specialist in performing monthly safety inspections as required.

  • Respond to and assist in emergency cleanups as necessary.

  • Complete all online training as required.

  • Other duties as assigned by the program Manager.

REQUIRED DEGREE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Bachelor's in Environmental Science or other relevant field preferred.

  • OSHA 30 certification.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Three plus (3+) years of experience providing Environmental Inspection, Audit, Self-Assessment Program Support and Environmental Program Administration & Customer Service Support.

  • Excellent troubleshooting skills.

  • Excellent analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • HAZWOPER Training (40-hour). Must be obtained prior to employee starting.

  • Forklift.

  • Ability to use Microsoft (MS) Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and MS Teams at a proficient level.

  • Working knowledge of the Resource Conservation & Recovery Act (RCRA) 40 CFR.

  • Working knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) 49 CFR.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be available and able to respond to emergency call-ins when required.

  • Must pass an annual "Fit for Duty" physical and meet all the necessary medical requirements to wear all types of respirators and perform the physical requirements of the job.

  • Must pass the required respirator fit test and maintain the requirement.

  • Must be physically able to climb all types of ladders, a-frame, vertical, extension etc.

  • Must be physically able to climb up on and maneuver on raised walkways and platforms with limited access.

  • Assigned other collateral duties as required.

ENVIROMENTAL FACTORS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:

  • Environmental Factors: Works in indoor and outdoor environments that contain excessive heat, cold and humidity, excessive dampness, electrical energy, dust, fumes, solvents grease, oils, moving machinery with moving parts, moving object or vehicles and slippery or uneven surfaces.

  • Physical Effort: Works from ground level, ladders, and platforms on equipment and systems where parts are hard-to-reach. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally over fifty pounds. Standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and stretching for prolonged periods will be necessary.

REQUIRED CITIZENSHIP AND CLEARANCE:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
