DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Safety Specialist 2, you will be responsible for the oversight of professional and technical safety work in the administration, training, and management of safety programs for the PennDOT District 2-0 office. Duties will entail developing, organizing, and conducting safety related guidance and training. Within this role, you will coordinate, implement, monitor, and maintain policies and procedures to ensure an effective and compliant program.


This professional is responsible for coordinating all accident (personal injury, fleet, and equipment) reports, conducting thorough accident and injury investigations within the required timeframes, and routing accident packages through the Accident Review Committee. Diligent attention to detail is given in order to enter
all inspections, accidents, and injuries in safety databases in addition to processing any required paperwork. You will also participate in the review of inspection and accident reports as required, concentrating on trends and problem areas for corrective actions and recommendations.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Overtime and travel overnight as necessary for training and meetings.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in District 2-0. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Safety Specialist 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of professional experience in conducting safety inspections, safety investigations, or safety training; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires you to obtain an active Advanced Safety Certificate issued by the National Safety Council's Safety Training Institute within two years of starting in this job.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid non-commercial Class C driver's license.
