THE POSITION

Starting an exiting career with the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections! We are seeking a motivated and hardworking Corrections Utility Plant Operator to join our team. In this role, you will lead inmate workers in the maintenance and operation of our boiler plant. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will perform work in the maintenance, operation, and repair of a boiler plant that generates steam, hot water, chilled water, or electricity while also directing inmates on an assigned shift. Your work will involve monitoring boiler plant systems and making adjustments to ensure proper operation. You will also keep accurate records of fuel consumption and steam, hot water, or chilled water production and recommend changes to procedures or equipment to increase plant efficiency. Some of your duties may include the operation of auxiliary electric generating equipment for either regular production of electricity or as a standby for emergencies. Work in this role is assigned and reviewed during your shift by a supervisor to ensure compliance with safe operations. Additionally, you will be responsible for the care, custody, and control of assigned inmates during a work shift.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week
  • Work hours are to be determined.
  • This position is eligible for full retirement benefits at age 50 or 55.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting annual salary of $47,925.00 (before taxes).

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of a steam or hot water generating plant, or a steam and electric generating plant; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Additional Requirements:

  • Successful completion of basic training in Elizabethtown, PA is required.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
