Reports to: Chief Financial Officer

Overview

A growing, privately held company is seeking a Controller to lead financial operations and serve as a key partner to the CFO. This role is responsible for ensuring accurate accounting, disciplined cash and treasury management, strong internal controls, and compliance with GAAP and regulatory standards. The Controller will also oversee and develop the accounting team, optimize ERP systems, and integrate acquisitions into company processes.

This is a highly visible leadership role that requires precision, sound judgment, and the ability to balance strategic oversight with hands-on execution.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Reporting

  • Own monthly and annual close processes to ensure timely, accurate reporting.

  • Prepare financial statements and variance analysis for leadership.

  • Partner with operations and department heads to provide financial insights and support decision-making.

  • Support the CFO in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

  • Oversee daily cash management, short-term forecasting, and disbursements.

Controls, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and company policies.

  • Maintain and update financial policies and procedures.

  • Oversee tax filings (sales/use tax, property tax, business licenses) and external CPA review process.

Team Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team.

  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

  • Implement KPIs to monitor performance and effectiveness.

  • Ensure cross-training and succession planning.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Serve as functional owner of ERP and financial applications.

  • Drive automation and process improvements.

  • Lead financial integration of acquisitions.

  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to improve reporting and controls.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • CPA required.

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in accounting leadership (Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Controller).

  • Strong technical accounting knowledge, leadership presence, and communication skills.

  • Proficiency with ERP systems and financial applications; experience with process automation preferred.
