THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this role, you will assist DOT districts, industry stakeholders, municipalities, and other relevant parties by reviewing, enforcing, and developing specifications to assess the quality of structures, particularly bridges. Your responsibilities will include investigating and resolving issues related to fabrication and materials, conducting quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with contract requirements, and performing independent assessments of the materials and fabrication processes used in highway and bridge construction projects. Additionally, you will provide training to stakeholders on effective material control techniques and adherence to the Department's specifications and policies.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time.
  • This position may be eligible for alternate work schedule (AWS)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience as a Transportation Construction Inspector Supervisor (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Four years of experience in construction inspection, including one year in a supervisory capacity; and graduation from high school or equivalent certification of formal training. Completion of a training program in construction inspection sanctioned by the using agency may be substituted for high school graduation. An Associate Degree in an engineering or closely related technology may be substituted for one year of the required non-supervisory experience; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training which provides the required knowledges, skills, and abilities.

Other Requirements:
  • This particular position requires possession of a valid Class C non-commercial driver's license.
