THE POSITION

This internship program provides a unique opportunity to work alongside experienced mechanics, gaining invaluable insights into the daily operations in a garage setting. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As an intern with the Department of Transportation, you will assist mechanics while acquiring vital skills necessary for safe and effective operations in an automotive garage atmosphere. This position offers hands-on experience in conducting general repairs and maintenance on cars and light trucks. You will engage in various repair activities and, upon demonstrating your competence, will have the chance to work with power, hand, and air tools. Furthermore, you will be tasked with keeping your work area organized and ensuring that tools and equipment are well-maintained. Throughout your internship, you will have the opportunity to enhance your knowledge and skills by seeking clarification on challenging tasks and consistently adhering to proactive safety measures.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Work schedule will vary based on agreement between high school and COPA location
  • High School Internship for the 2025-2026 School Year - Beginning 09/02/25 - 06/30/26.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS Internship Requirements:

  • You must be at least 16 years of age by the internship start date.
  • You must be a junior or senior status for the upcoming 2025 - 2026 high school year.
Additional Requirements:
  • You must attach a Letter of Recommendation from your school's co-op coordinator, career or guidance counselor, or similar designated school professional indicating you meet your school's requirements and are being recommended for this opportunity.
  • Work Permit: Minors will be required to submit their Work Permit upon acceptance of this position.
  • By participating in this program, the student and school agree to use the Commonwealth's Training Plan, Statement of Responsibilities, and Student Performance Evaluation. Forms will be provided to the student upon acceptance of this position.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
