Position Summary
TCW's Risk & Research Technology department is seeking a Lead Quantitative Engineer to drive the industrialization of quantitative research into production-grade software solutions supporting Fixed Income and Equities portfolios across global markets. This role is a unique opportunity for a seasoned technologist who thrives on solving complex engineering challenges, setting high standards for code quality, and leading teams to deliver impactful analytics platforms. You will own the full software development lifecycle, champion best practices, and guide engineers and contractors in a high-ownership, entrepreneurial environment. Experience with BlackRock's Aladdin platform, especially its data feeds and APIs, is a strong plus, enabling you to make strategic decisions about integrating third-party capabilities versus building custom solutions. Essential Duties
Lead Full Software Lifecycle: Own end-to-end delivery of portfolio risk and returns attribution analytics-from requirements through design, development, testing, deployment, and support-ensuring scalable, maintainable, performant, and resilient solutions.
- Industrialize Research Code: Convert prototype research into production-quality software using modular design, clean code, automated testing, CI/CD, and thorough documentation.
- Architect for Scale: Design systems to process large, complex financial data in near real-time, leveraging distributed computing, cloud-native (Azure preferred), and modern data engineering frameworks.
- Integrate & Extend Aladdin: Use BlackRock Aladdin data feeds, APIs, and attribution modules to enhance analytics. Evaluate when to extend Aladdin versus build proprietary components for optimal flexibility, cost, and speed.
- Lead & Mentor Teams: Guide engineers and contractors, fostering craftsmanship, ownership, and continuous improvement through code reviews, best practices, and professional development.
- Drive Agile Delivery: Collaborate with stakeholders to write clear User Stories and Epics; facilitate Agile ceremonies ensuring alignment between technical execution and business priorities.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with quantitative researchers and portfolio managers to translate analytics needs into scalable software; communicate technical concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
Required Qualifications
Technical & Domain Qualifications:
- Bachelor's or higher in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of software engineering experience delivering complex, production-grade systems.
- Strong Python expertise; proficiency in C# preferred; familiarity with GraphQL and React a plus.
- Deep knowledge of software engineering best practices: modular architecture, automated testing, CI/CD, version control, code reviews, and performance tuning.
- Solid understanding of distributed computing, cloud-native development (Azure preferred), and big data technologies.
- Proven technical leadership guiding engineering teams and contractors, raising engineering standards, and fostering innovation.
- Demonstrated ability to write clear, actionable User Stories and Epics that accurately capture complex portfolio risk and returns attribution requirements, reflecting solid working knowledge of domain concepts (e.g., VaR, Expected Shortfall, factor models, Brinson attribution) to ensure alignment between business needs and technical delivery.
- Experience with BlackRock Aladdin data feeds, APIs, or similar financial platforms, with integration and extension capabilities, is a plus.

Estimated Compensation: Base Salary: For CA based position, the base salary range is $200k - $220k This is an anticipated range only.
