Chemical Operator

Huntsman is seeking a Chemical Operator supporting the Advanced Materials (ADMAT) Division located in Rock Hill, SC. This position will report to the Production Area Manager

Huntsman's Advanced Materials Division is seeking a Night Shift Chemical Operator supporting our facility in Rock Hill, North Carolina. This position will report to the Plant Management Team.

In summary, as the Chemical Operator, you will:

  • Document operating and quality conditions of plant equipment and processes,
  • Notify appropriate personnel when operating and quality conditions are not met and respond accordingly,
  • Transfer materials into or out of drums, bags, tankers, or other types of containers that may require heavy lifting (in excess of 55 lbs.) above the waistline. Packing out final product into 55-lb bags or supersacks and label.
  • Move and connect chemical hoses to diaphragm pumps, reactors, tanks, tank wagons, and other equipment,
  • Operate standard chemical manufacturing equipment - change filters, swap pumps, operate valves, etc. per site procedures and instructions.
  • Maneuver drums, and other containers weighing up to 550 lbs. to position on pallets for filling and storage,
  • Perform routine maintenance on plant equipment such as tanks, pipes, hoses, pumps, etc. Use of tools, compressed gas equipment, rigging, and other operations involving equipment maintenance,
  • Wear the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) such as Tyvek suits, rubber gloves, rubber boots, FR clothing, and full-face respirators (and pass fit test) when handling chemicals or performing tasks where PPE is required,
  • Complete all Safety training as required to include confined space, hot work, line break, lockout/tagout, and other PSM/RMP related training.
  • Participate in the site's Zero Harm Safety Program
  • Any other assigned duties, including cleanup.

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and prefer additional educational experiences,
  • Must be extremely safety oriented.

Experience

  • Two years prior experience working in a chemical plant or similar environment,
  • At least 18 years of age,
  • Effective written and verbal communications skills and the ability to work effectively in a team environment are critical,
  • Ability to read, comprehend and complete reports and documents as required,
  • Ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization,
  • Possess/demonstrate the ability and willingness to learn skills and knowledge of chemistry and math to fulfill duties of this position,
  • Ability to drive a forklift in a safe manner,
  • Physical ability to climb and work from stairs, ladders, and tank wagon access,
  • Position requires long periods of standing, walking, bending, lifting, stretching, turning valves, and moving portable equipment such as pumps, filters, hoses, and pallets.

Working Environment

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed regularly to outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to elevated places,
  • The ability to work safely with chemicals is also a requirement.
  • Lifting more than 55 lbs., frequent standing, standing and twisting, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, pushing/pulling, overhead and horizontal reaching, bending, squatting, kneeling, grasping, forceful gripping/pinching,
  • Must be able to work a 12-hour shift and be open to any shift. Schedule and shift changes are sometimes required
