Founded in 1990, IPG pioneered the development and commercialization of optical fiber-based lasers, a critical technology in the CROSSBOW high-energy laser system program.
Position Overview
IPG Defense is seeking a skilled Field Integration Engineer to support our Crossbow defense system deployment and customer success initiatives. This role combines technical expertise with customer-facing responsibilities, requiring travel to customer sites domestically and internationally to ensure successful system integration, training, and ongoing support.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Training & Support
- Conduct comprehensive training programs for customers on Crossbow system operation, safety protocols, and best practices
- Develop and deliver hands-on training sessions to ensure customer proficiency with the system
- Create and maintain training documentation and materials
- Provide ongoing technical support and consultation to customers post-deployment
System Integration
- Lead integration efforts of Crossbow systems with customer radar systems and existing defense infrastructure
- Support both standalone and layered defense system configurations
- Collaborate with customer technical teams to ensure seamless system interoperability
- Troubleshoot integration challenges and provide technical solutions
Field Engineering Support
- Perform field-based troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and software system components
- Conduct system diagnostics and implement corrective actions
- Support field modifications and upgrades as required
- Coordinate with engineering teams for complex technical issues requiring escalation
Customer Relationship Management
- Serve as primary technical liaison between IPG Defense and key customers
- Gather customer feedback and requirements for product improvement initiatives
- Maintain strong relationships with customer technical and operational teams
- Provide regular status updates and technical reports to internal stakeholders
Requirements
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Systems, or related field)
- 3+ years of experience in field engineering, system integration, or customer support roles
- Experience with defense systems, radar technology, or related military/aerospace applications preferred
Technical Skills
- Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems
- Experience with software troubleshooting and system diagnostics
- Knowledge of integration protocols and system interoperability
- Familiarity with radar systems and defense technologies highly preferred
- Proficiency with technical documentation and training material development
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Engineering or related field
- Experience with C4ISR systems or defense contractor environment
- Previous military or defense industry experience
- Security clearance (or ability to obtain)
- Experience with international business operations
Position Details
- Location: Huntsville, Alabama (preferred base location)
- Travel: Extensive domestic travel required (50-75%), with occasional international travel
- Employment Type: Full-time, permanent position
- Security: Must be able to obtain and maintain required security clearances

Actual starting pay is determined by a number of factors including relevant skills, qualifications, and experience.
