DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this essential position, you will be tasked with ensuring that all district line painting equipment is ready for operation. This includes stocking the supply truck with necessary materials for the day's work, calibrating and fueling the equipment, and refilling tanks with the appropriate supplies both before and during operations. You will also need to confirm that communication devices are functioning properly.

During painting operations, you will operate and monitor the equipment to ensure the correct application of paint thickness and bead distribution, while adhering to specified line widths for different types of highways. It is crucial to oversee the positioning, color, and type of lines to guarantee accurate placement, requiring quick reflexes to adapt to any changes in vehicle operation.

Furthermore, you may have the opportunity to receive training and certification for operating various heavy machinery, including snow plows, backhoes, tractor mowers with hydraulic attachments, bulldozers, graders, and other equipment weighing ten tons or more, as well as specialized line painting machines and pavement breakers.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment.
  • Work hours are 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM; Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • This position requires overtime
  • Work hours subject to change based on seasonal requirements and operational needs.
  • During the winter months you may be expected to work from the county in which you reside.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Successful completion of the Transportation Equipment Operator Trainee Program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from a Commercial Driver's License Training School; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Special Requirements:

  • This position requires possession of a valid Pennsylvania Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License with the Air Brake Restriction (L) removed.
  • This position requires possession of a valid Medical Examiner's Certificate in accordance with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.

Conditions of Employment:

  • All employees must obtain an active certification issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation in the operation of heavy trucks and loaders, and two additional pieces of construction equipment, within the probationary period.
  • Employees may be required to obtain and maintain CDL endorsements and certifications necessary to operate specific pieces of equipment.
  • This position requires the operation of vehicles or equipment with a manual transmission.
  • This position is subject to Drug and Alcohol testing in accordance with Federal Regulations.
