We are seeking a highly motivated and safety-conscious Operations Technician to join our facility in Nevada, IA which produces Liquid CO2.

The Operations Technician / Plant Operator will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting the equipment at the facility. The basic function of this role is to provide necessary technical and hands on support to continuously improve plant operation. Additional duties include issuing safe work permits, taking field readings, manipulating manual valves, working with and handling boiler feed water chemicals, operating a forklift, performing equipment inspections, and various other tasks required to accomplish the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the facility.

This is a safety sensitive role.

Required Skills / Abilities:

  • Controlling and monitoring the process of producing liquid CO2 for shipment to our customers.
  • Providing hands on support or assisting in plant equipment mechanical repairs, instrument calibrations and electrical troubleshooting as required.
  • Investigating equipment failures, determining root causes of failures, and recommending appropriate solutions to reduce reoccurrence of/or eliminating causes of failures.
  • Working with the source supplier to assure plant on-stream and reliability.
  • A strong commitment to safety, working as a team, and operational excellence.
  • Utilizing written procedures for starting and stopping equipment.
  • Isolating systems for maintenance using work permits and lock out tag out process.
  • Operating systems from remote location via Distributed Control System.
  • Standing rotating watches outside normal working hours.
  • A self-starter with a strong work ethic.

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Active participation in the Basic Safety Process as a key member of the Site Safety Committee.
  • Work with compressors, pumps and other pieces of rotating equipment.
  • Assist in plant equipment mechanical repairs, instrument calibrations and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Taking and recording boiler chemistry water samples.
  • Preforming equipment inspections.
  • Prepare and submit documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures, internal/external audits, management of change documents.
  • Follow Lockout / Tag Out Procedures.
  • Issue Safe Work Permits for all jobs being completed in the plant.
  • Professional skills improvement & development in process and safety management.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Two years' experience of operations in an industrial plant is preferred.
  • Associate degree in a technical field a plus but not required.
  • Military experience is a plus.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude required.
  • Must be willing to take 24-hour on-call responsibilities every other week as well as working1-2 hours every other weekend day (1 weekend day).
  • Must be a self-starter and willing to work alone.
  • Strong oral and written communications skills.
  • Team player that is flexible and has a positive attitude.
  • Must have good written and oral communications skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb ladders and steps and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Will be exposed to a high noise environment.
  • Elevated work required.
