The Opportunity:

Avantor,a Global Fortune 500 company, is looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Applications Scientist to join our team in developing application data and technical content using laboratory chemicals and analytical chromatography products. The role is critical in supporting product innovation, customer engagement, and technical marketing through the generation of high-quality, data-driven application materials.

This Applications Scientist will be responsible for developing new product application data, conducting research, and providing technical support to customers specializing in lab chemicals and analytical chromatography columns used in biopharma applications. The Applications Scientist will deliver innovative analytical method development and applications content to contribute to the growth and success of the company.

The role will be on-site at our state-of-the-art Innovation Center located in Bridgewater, NJ.

What we're looking for:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required; M.S. in Life Science discipline preferred
  • Experience: 3+ years of hands-on experience including:
  • LC-MS, HPLC, UPLC for advanced pharmaceutical analysis
  • Method development and optimization
  • Trouble-shooting instrumentation and workflows
  • Experience across a range of therapeutic modalities including mAbs, small molecules, and peptides
  • Experience across a range of applications including peptide mapping, charge variant analysis, protein capture and purification
  • Sample preparation and purification techniques
  • Experimental design and implementation of stability and reproducibility studies
  • Competitor product benchmarking study design, implementation, and report write up
  • Proficiency in chromatography data systems (e.g. Empower, ChemStation, Chromeleon)
  • Ability to analyze and interpret complex datasets
  • Familiarity with statistical tools (e.g. JMP, Minitab) or scripting (Python, R) for data analysis

The Applications Scientist will work alongside a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, product managers, and marketers focused on delivering differentiated value to our biopharma customers. With the ability to learn and adapt employing curiosity, high energy and a drive to get things done, the Senior Applications Scientist will engage with innovative product and application ideas to address current and future challenges in drug discovery and QC. With a strong sense of urgency, initiative and drive this role involves hands-on execution of laboratory studies and technology projects designed to support customer's product needs from conception to completion, in close collaboration with internal and external partners.

This role will utilize novel scientific approaches and tools to advance execution of initiatives within a cross-functional environment, ensuring timely project completion.

Technical and Interpersonal Skills: The successful candidate must have excellent communication and technical skills, enabling development of product application study ideas, design, implementation, and data analysis with minimal guidance.

Responsibilities and Impact: The role involves hands-on experimental design and implementation resulting in output of technical application notes and supporting customers in method development and optimization.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop product application ideas and formulate concepts for testing and feasibility to publish application notes and technical content using chromatography and analytical chemistry techniques (MS, HPLC, LC-MS, GC) with minimal supervision.
  • Conduct hands-on experiments using analytical purification chromatography systems such as affinity, ion-exchange, hydrophobic interaction and mixed-mode chromatography
  • Develop and optimize methods for sample preparation, separation, and detection.
  • Compiling, analyzing and providing scientific interpretations of experimental data using statistical tools.
  • Driving coordination and collaboration within R&D and cross-functional groups on key application strategies.
  • Generate application notes, technical bulletins, white papers, and customer-facing data packages.
  • Collaborate with product management, R&D, and marketing teams to align application development with business goals.
  • Assemble key technical and application data into appropriate communication formats in support of presentations that position a company's analytical findings, project outcomes, and value propositions at internal or customer meetings, industry associations, and conferences.
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies.
  • Ability to travel and work at customer sites to successfully implement applications.

Pay Transparency:

The expected pre-tax pay for this position is

$85,000.00 - $141,600.00

Actual pay may differ depending on relevant factors such as prior experience and geographic location.
