This position is for a service-focused candidate who will provide primary onsite IT support at a large-scale lignite mining operation in Ackerman, MS. In this vital role, the candidate will serve as the front line of technical assistance for all end users, ensuring uninterrupted operations by delivering responsive, effective, and solutions-driven support.
Job Description: The core responsibility of this position is exceptional end-user support-from resolving day-to-day technical issues to educating users on new solutions and best practices. The candidate's ability to listen, troubleshoot, and resolve issues efficiently will have a direct impact on the productivity of mining operations. Additional responsibilities include maintaining and optimizing local and field networks, installing and configuring PC hardware and software, supporting site-specific applications, and ensuring secure and stable IT operations in alignment with both departmental and corporate standards. The candidate will also play a key role in onboarding and training users on new systems, as well as enforcing cybersecurity protocols and system integrity. ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Administer and maintain the local area network (LAN), including installation, configuration, testing, and documentation of network hardware and software applications.
- Provide timely support and technical expertise for field network operations to ensure continuous connectivity and performance.
- Act as a frequent liaison with the complete IT team across multiple mine sites and the corporate office to align on standards, share knowledge, and escalate issues as needed.
- Accurately log, track, and update service requests and incidents in the help desk system, ensuring timely resolution and consistent communication with end users.
- Manage and protect sensitive and confidential information in compliance with organizational policies and industry standards.
- Support system upgrades, conversions, and new technology implementations, working closely with project teams and stakeholders.
- Contribute to the ongoing security and protection of all systems and data through proactive monitoring and adherence to security best practices as defined by the corporate team.
- Diagnose and resolve software and hardware issues across desktops, laptops, mobile devices, and other peripherals to minimize user downtime.
- Assist in planning and executing IT projects, including deployments of new systems or enhancements to existing infrastructure.
- Collaborate closely with the infrastructure and support teams to resolve technical issues and deliver high-quality end-user support.
- Maintain compliance with all corporate standards and policies.
OTHER DUTIES:
- Enhance job knowledge by participating in training opportunities and reading professional publications
- Attend scheduled corporate collaboration meetings and participate in corporate-level projects as assigned
- Occasional field work and some out-of-state travel may be required
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong skills and practical application working in a Windows OS environment
- Strong skills and practical knowledge of PC hardware and software maintenance and troubleshooting
- Basic knowledge of security principals, Server, IP networking, PC and network technology
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Excellent English oral and written communication skills
- Must be available some evenings and weekends to provide support
- Required to clear annual Credit and MVR background checks
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 4 years of experience in Information Technology. Bachelor's Degree in related discipline preferred, but not required.
