About the role Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs. We are looking for a Principal Advisor Studies to lead and deliver strategic growth studies ($50M-100M+ capex) for Rio Tinto Borates. It will require strong engagement with a variety of stakeholders across the global business including senior management, operations, sales, logistics, business analysis, finance, HSE, HR, community and external affairs. This role will provide excellent exposure to both the Borates and Battery Materials leadership team with an opportunity to drive the future direction of the business. Reporting to the Strategic Planning Manager, key responsibilities include:
- Lead strategic growth studies with a focus on concept, order of magnitude, pre-feasibility and feasibility stages. Oversee project engineering, analysis and evaluation.
- Critically analyze project assumptions and drive value engineering opportunities.
- Prepare and present study findings and recommendations to GM level and above including various Investment Committees.
- Manage studies through their numerous study stages. Obtain approvals from both internal and external stakeholders to move the study through its stages.
- Provide expert advice for studies within the Borates business.
- Identify and implement improvements to study delivery methods.
About You To be considered for this role you will demonstrate the following skills and experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in a relevant discipline
- Excellent familiarity and understanding of Rio Tinto's study definition guidance
- Experience leading large studies ($50M-100M+ capex) at Rio Tinto
- Knowledge of engineering principles and technical due diligence at OoM, PFS and FS level
- Experience working with and managing EPCMs / engineering service providers
- Ability to critically analyse and identify value engineering / capex optimization opportunities
- Experience with TEG/BED reviews advantageous
- Ability to conduct thorough, high-quality analysis to support conclusions and recommendations
- Excellent ability to develop and deliver presentation of findings to GM level and above
- Strategic and forward-thinking competencies
- Ability to manage sensitive, time critical and complex tasks
- Experience effectively managing and coordinating a wide range of stakeholders and inputs
- Experience in financial evaluation and business case building
