Position Summary

Under general supervision, performs painting and associated work on the Bridge and other District facilities as required. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Essential Responsibilities

*Paints interiors and exteriors of District buildings, including railings and posts
*Performs dry wall finishing, including joint taping, skip troweling, patch work and related prep work
*Strips and prepares wood and metal for finishing
*Finishes wood and metal furniture and stains and matches gloss of existing finishes
*Applies roadway markings and striping
*Sandblasts and spray paints fabricated steel items
*Repairs and maintains spray painting equipment, brushes and rollers
*Drives District vehicles
*Knows & follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job
*Removes graffiti from buildings and the Bridge using ladders
*Handles hazardous wastes
*Responsible for cleaning and housekeeping in assigned work area
*Knows and follows the safety and health rules and safe working practices applicable to his or her job.
*Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with District employees, customers, vendors and all others contacted during the course of work using principles of excellent customer service.
*Performs additional related duties as assigned
*Regular and reliable attendance and performance is required


Minimum Qualifications

Knowledge of:
*Occupational health and safety rules and working practices applicable to this position.
*Mixing and matching colors and putty fillers
*Paint appropriate for interior and exterior application
*Use of solvents and thinners
*Proper use and care of tools and equipment, including air powered, electric powered and airless equipment

Ability to:
*Carry out work assignments with a minimum of supervision
*Be punctual and maintain a good attendance record
*Adhere to safe work practices
*Work closely and cooperatively with other District personnel
*Read and understand written material related to the position including, MSDS instructions and power equipment instructions
*Wear appropriate safety protection equipment including: respiratory, ear, eye, hand and fall protection equipment


Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Education and/or Experience:
*Three years' experience house painting. Education and training may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis
*Completion of a Painter Apprenticeship program is desirable

Required License:
Must possess and maintain a current, valid California driver's license and satisfactory driving record. No reckless driving and DUI infractions within the last 7 years. No more than 2 moving violations within the last 3 years. Operates District vehicles on a regular basis.

Physical Requirement:
Work outside in cold and other inclement weather. Work comfortably at considerable heights and on suspended scaffolds. Ability to stand for long periods. Requires maintaining physical condition necessary for standing/walking; sitting; lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds; pushing/pulling; climbing/balancing; bending/twisting; and kneeling/crouching.

This position may have a potential for or actual exposure to lead. Pursuant to OSHA regulations, District employees are not exposed to lead at concentrations greater than 10 micrograms per cubic meter (g/m3) of air averaged over an 8-hour period.
