Rope Rescue Specialist

Appointment Type: Seasonal Full Time

Overview:

This is a non-supervisory position that will provide on-mountain training in the use of cliff and high angle rope rescues in all types of terrain. This position is responsible for the maintenance and ordering of all cliff rescue/high angle rescue equipment. The Rope Rescue Specialist reports directly to the Director of Patrol, Ski Patrol Manager, and Ski Patrol Supervisor. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Solitude Ski Patrol Union.

Key requirements:
  • Must be employed as a Solitude Mountain Patroller
  • The ability to demonstrate expert knowledge and skills in cliff and high angle rescues that involve knots, anchors and rope systems
  • The ability to conduct high angle toboggan rescues
  • The ability to teach and train patrollers in the use of rope rescue techniques in all terrain
  • Rigging for Rescue 'Rope Rescue 1 Fundamentals' or equivalent as determined by Patrol Management
  • Ski Patrol Level 1 or above


Duties:
  • Oversee and coordinate rope rescue training for ski patrol with patrol management and other specialist roles
  • Properly document all rope rescue training
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory log of all high angle rescue equipment
  • The ability to research new and different rescue techniques
  • The ability to research and prepare orders of rescue ropes and specialized equipment as needed
  • The ability and skills to properly care for and maintain all rescue ropes and equipment, including ensuring proper storage
  • Conduct and document pre-season, post-season, monthly, and post-use inspections.
