Operations Specialist

Appointment Type: Seasonal Full Time

Overview:

This is a non-supervisory position that will provide resource management for up to 15 employees and will be responsible for a wide variety of mountain operations. The incumbent will spend the majority of their time in the field. The Operations Specialist reports directly to the Director of Patrol, Ski Patrol Manager, Ski Patrol Supervisor, and the Avalanche Mitigation Manager. This position requires strong interpersonal relationship skills. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Solitude Ski Patrol Union.

Key requirements:
  • Must be employed as a Solitude Mountain Patroller
  • Avalanche Pro 1 certification preferred
  • 3 years of patrol experience at Solitude
  • 3 years of avalanche mitigation experience at a class "A" resort preferred
  • Strong communication, decision making, and leadership skills
  • Adept at utilizing and coaching 2-way radio communications
  • A thorough understanding of Solitude operations
  • Ski Patrol level 2 or above


Duties:
  • Oversee the operations of one of two duty stations
  • Oversees, trains, and ensures AM and PM sweeps are conducted and documented in accordance with standard operating procedures
  • Trains line patrollers in proper documentation of incidents
  • Communicates and coordinates operations with patrol leadership
  • Provides emergency care to those in need of assistance and has the ability to train line patrollers in emergency care
  • Provides training to line patrollers in Ski Patrol level 2 skills and below
  • Support and assist all other specialist roles with training and coordination
  • Collaborate with patrol leadership and other specialists on equipment needs, repairs, and recommended replacement schedule
  • Ensure all patient information is collected and recorded in accordance with industry standards
  • Assists in inter-agency rescue efforts in fluid complex situations
  • Ensures proper signage and required rope lines are in place
  • Enforces local and state ordinances as well as the skier responsibility code
  • Evaluates mountain conditions and hazards and takes steps to mitigate such hazards including appropriate markings if applicable
  • Ensures that the clinic, locker room, and top stations, both interior and exterior, are kept in a clean working order
