Are you ready to make your mark? If you're an IT Server Administrator II, we have an exciting opportunity for you. The Server Administrator II reports to the IT Infrastructure leader. This position is responsible for the monitoring, installation, maintenance, support and overall operational stability of our server and storage infrastructure to allow user access to local-site and enterprise applications. Also specializing in more critical services, virtualization, domain level items, and/or storage/replication/data recovery systems. The level 2 administrator typically works with little to no supervision.

This position can be based out of Rockford, IL or Niles IL

What You Will Be Doing

  • Install physical or configure virtual servers. Install, configure and maintain associated operating system and application software (e-mail, database, backup, etc.) as required. Assist with the evaluation of new server hardware and software products. Plan and execute server and associated software upgrades as required. Assist team members in identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization of the enterprise server and storage infrastructure.
  • Manage server security configuration and patching while ensuring availability of web, database, and application servers at the local site.
  • Cloud Infrastructure: Working knowledge of cloud-based infrastructure services, including deployment, configuration, and management of resources. Supports hybrid environments by integrating cloud services with on-premises Unix, Windows, or database systems to enhance scalability, availability, and operational efficiency.
  • Install and manage storage for the local site and other sites as required. Assist with enterprise-wide storage design and management as required.
  • Install and maintain packaged application software as required. Assist internal development projects at local site and enterprise wide, and attend/participate in internal local/enterprise project meetings.
  • Monitor local and remote servers, storage and networks to ensure satisfactory performance and 24x7 availability. Manage monitoring tools to identify any issues.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software problems. Assist with enterprise-level issues as required. Provide 1st/2nd level of server system support by addressing issues, questions, and problems.
  • Documentation Management - Maintains detailed and accurate documentation of infrastructure, system, and database configurations, procedures, and changes to support operational consistency and audit readiness. Generates and analyzes system activity reports, contributes to documentation standards, and ensures updates reflect current environments and best practices.
  • Perform system backups and recovery for the local site and additional sites as required. Develop, maintain and test disaster recovery plans for the local site as required.
  • Monitor system usage and growth, and plan for adequate resources (memory, CPU, storage, etc.). Communicate system trends, issues and outages to peers and management.
  • Establish and adhere to Woodward-standard policies and procedures for server, storage and network administration, security, usage and backup/recovery.
  • Scripting and Automation: Adept in developing and refining scripts to automate administrative tasks such as system monitoring, user and permission management, and/or database maintenance. Leverages automation to streamline operations, reduce manual effort, enhance system efficiency, and support proactive troubleshooting and reporting.
  • Participate on and lead Global IT project teams as required. Lead/facilitate operational improvement projects.
  • Work with hardware and software vendors as required to procure, install and resolve issues with enterprise products.
  • Will be on-call for after-hours issues. Needs to be available for maintenance and implementation work during Sunday planned downtime windows as required.
  • Maintenance and administration of DNS, IIS, SFTP and other services.
  • Mentoring of server administrators and promoting teamwork.
  • Provide technical guidance to Woodward IT members world-wide; provide IT infrastructure support to Woodward's global user base.
  • Design and implement server and storage solutions to meet the needs of the global organization for available, secure and optimized access to enterprise applications.
  • Work with Global IT Security team to design, implement and maintain enterprise security solutions.

What We Are Looking For

  • US - Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS)
  • 5+ years' experience with server and/or storage with global responsibilities
  • Experience with installation, troubleshooting and support of an enterprise system hardware/software infrastructure
  • Experience in a global, collaborative and team-oriented environment
  • Experience and/or certifications with related vendors (HP, Dell, IBM, EMC, Cisco, etc.)
