The Data Science Manager at instED is a clinical/business-facing and technical-facing role that collaborates with clinical/business stakeholders They will support instED's growing needs for data-driven decision making and building predictive tools/processes to derive key insights from advanced analytics. The Data Science Manager will focus on the data extraction and processing, analytics, feature engineering/selection, modeling and evaluation, results delivery, and model implementation. They will also build and/or implement tools to translate complex data and provide actionable insights to clinical and business users. This role needs to be a "full-stack" data scientist and has the exciting opportunity to contribute code and ideas at any part of the stack, with a focus on end user value. This position requires strong technical and analytical skills as well as experience working in healthcare sector. This position will report to the Chief Product Officer. Experience working with urgent care or care delivery settings is preferred but not required. Supervision Exercised: * No, this position does not have direct reports. Essential Duties & Responsibilities: * Contribute to the creation of analytics platforms and data products that will drive core business processes and be used by analysts across the organization * Analyze performance of existing risk based contracts to identify areas of improvement * Evaluate clinical and claims information shared by prospects to identify patient population and services for value based contracts * Support ongoing deployment of predictive models which help instED identify ER and in-patient utilization patterns as well as service needs of high-risk patient populations * Conduct directed analysis and translated complex information into actionable insights to help clinical/business leadership make better, data driven decisions * Maintain a current knowledge of emerging tools and techniques in machine learning, natural language processing, database systems, visualization, statistical modeling, data extraction/manipulation and so on * Be an expert and keep expanding knowledge in urgent care, health insurance and non-traditional care delivery models * Complete data science projects independently with minimum supervisor and guidance * Propose and conduct optimal solution to projects independently Working Conditions: * Standard office conditions. * This position can be remote with the option to work on-site in the Boston office location. Required Education (must have): * Master's degree + 4 year of equivalent work experience * OR bachelor's degree + 8 years of equivalent work experience (STEM major or related field preferred) Required Experience (must have): * Master's degree + 4 year of equivalent work experience * OR bachelor's degree + 8 years of equivalent work experience (STEM major or related field preferred) Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (must have): Business and Technical skills: * Extensive experience conducting analysis for Value Based Care Management models. * Expertise with Python (numpy, pandas, sklearn, nltk...) * Strong understanding of statistical techniques like descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, regression analysis, time series analysis, and probability distributions to analyze risk data and validate models * Experience and excellent understanding of machine learning modeling techniques and algorithms for tasks like risk prediction, fraud detection, and credit scoring. Familiarity with different algorithms (e.g., decision trees, neural networks) and their applications in risk management is crucial * Expertise with relational databases and SQL * Expertise with data visualization and tools * Experience with data exploration, data wrangling and feature engineering * Strong scripting and programming skills * Strong analytical mindset * Willingness to learn new technologies * Experience with cloud data warehouses and cloud provider services (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure) * Track record of working on the machine learning pipeline from ideation, model training, through to deployment and production support * Track record of success in technology or software development environment * Track record of successful analytics projects of define and decomposite business/technical problems and solve them * Ability to develop competence in any programming, tool, or technology, that a problem requires; be data and tool omnivorous * Soft skills: * Be organized and flexible * Take initiative to own projects * Be able to work with interdisciplinary teams * Be able to explain technical concepts/results to non-technical audiences * Passion for creating work that is well-documented and reproducible * Ability to work with short iteration times in agile mode as well as the ability to carry out projects in a self-directed manner * Healthcare: passion for working at a healthcare organization Required Language (must have): * English Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Language (nice to have): * Experience with R * Experience in healthcare or health insurance organization * Experience using Power BI, Tableau, and Looker Experience with clinical claims and health record data * Experience building data pipelines in the cloud under the constraints of HIPAA * Publication or presentation of innovation in data science, machine learning or related area
