Symetra has an exciting opportunity for a strategic leader to join our team as a Compliance Director, overseeing Records Management!

About the role

As a Compliance Director, Records Management, you will work closely with operations, technology and sales teams to champion best practices, manage compliance risks, and promote a strong ethics and compliance culture. You will proactively identify potential risks, communicate with senior management, maintain trust and credibility with business partners, as well as contribute to the direction and formation of departmental strategy.

What you will do



  • Develop and execute a comprehensive records management strategy aligned with organizational goals, industry regulations, and data governance best practices.
  • Serve as the organization's subject matter expert on all matters related to records retention, disposition, storage, and access.
  • Collaborate with IT and other business areas during the evaluation of existing records management systems and technologies and the records management impact of new systems, technologies, and vendors.
  • Collaborate with Law, Information Security, IT, Privacy, Business Continuity, and other business areas to ensure consistent records practices, and to identify and mitigate risks related to retention, and destruction.
  • Design, implement, and update corporate records retention policies and schedules based on applicable laws and Symetra standards.
  • Drive company-wide compliance with applicable records management regulations and monitor compliance with records management policies
  • Partner with Law to support eDiscovery and investigations.
  • Manage physical records inventories, including offsite storage, archival procedures, and secure destruction.
  • Promote a culture of records stewardship and compliance through training, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop and deliver training and guidance to educate employees on records management policies and best practices.
  • Supervise and develop a team of records management professionals.

Compensation

$125,000 - $208,400 annually plus eligibility for Company Annual Bonus

Who you are




  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in information management required.
  • Certified Records Manager (CRM), Information Governance Professional (IGP) or similar certification strongly preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in records management, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry, including 5+ years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of records retention laws and industry compliance standards.
  • Experience with Microsoft suite (e.g., Outlook, OneDrive, etc.), SharePoint, and records management software. (Experience with FileNet preferred.)
  • Excellent collaboration, leadership, and written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience working cross-functionally with Law, Compliance, IT, and operations teams.
