The Senior Manager, Economic & Industry Insights, works across the Economic & Industry Insights team to produce data, analysis and insights. This role will take a holistic, data-driven approach to explaining and measuring trends in the consumer and commercial mobility ecosystem to inform business decisions and support client relationships. The Senior Manager lives at the intersection of our data science and analytics and will have serious 'chops' in data consumption, manipulation and interpretation. In this role, you will lead by example to answer questions and solve problems for external clients and internal stakeholders, striving to provide excellent customer service (response time and problem-solving). You will work across departments and business units in a matrix style, using your creativity to connect disparate data and turn it into coherent stories that credibly confirm or refute hypotheses.

The successful candidate will be comfortable working with any relevant data that explain or illuminate industry trends whether demographic, psychographic, economic or transactional. The key to the role will be the ability to correlate, connect and synthesize data points from different sources. It's all about connecting the holistic dots. Strong analytical and communication skills are important, including comfort independently exploring and managing data, drawing conclusions, and ultimately clearly and concisely communicating and presenting findings to audiences ranging from used car dealers to C-Suite Executives.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Produce and translate information, data, insights and implications regarding broad economic, consumer and mobility trends impacting automotive retail and commercial fleet businesses.
  • Coordinate, generate and maintain data sets, research reports, chart books and presentations that track trends and indicators relevant to above.
  • Specifically, become a subject matter expert across internal and external data sets curated by the team and the metrics derived that give insight to the business and clients with regard to where a specific industry is headed, with particular attention to fundamental demand for consumer owned vehicles, automotive retail dealerships, commercially owned fleets and fleet services
  • Extend subject matter expertise across Cox Automotive businesses to be able to match the right mix of holistic data and analytics to the business problems unique to a given vertical
  • Connect impacts and implications of industry, economic, financial, demographic and consumer trends to the businesses of Cox Automotive and its customers.
  • Prepare reports of findings, visualize data sets and translate complex findings into a concise story.
  • Surface insights for the Economic Industry Insights team, the Chief Economist and the wider Cox Automotive internal and external client base.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the team and the business to provide high-quality consulting and differentiated services, while functioning in a matrixed environment
  • Partner with key members from technical and non-technical teams to build and deliver requirements & manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Offer thought leadership, Industry Insights and recommendations around specific questions
  • Assist with ad-hoc projects, presentations and initiatives as assigned.
  • Travel between 25-50% to different locations, off-sites and conferences.


Key Qualifications of a successful candidate include:

  • Background in economics/finance with strong quantitative and statistical skills with some elementary data science experience
  • Proficiency in SQL or Python; ability to independently access and evaluate raw data.
  • Intellectual curiosity and adaptability across market sectors and ability to quickly master market drivers and data nuances
  • Comfort with ambiguity and a fast-changing environment and adept at ramping up quickly in new environments.


Required Experience & Specialized Knowledge and skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Finance, Business Administration, Math or equivalent quantitative discipline
  • 3+ years of recent experience in use of data and analytical tools and fluent in fundamentals of statistics, data science and data visualization
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Strategy, Finance, Economics, Market Research or related field, working with very large data sets to generate clear insights
  • Experience with econometric or statistical packages and/or visualization software such as Python, SQL, R, Tableau, Snowflake or Alteryx is preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is a must.
  • Must have strong familiarity with economic and industry data sources like Moody's Analytics, S&P, Bloomberg, Equifax, Experian, and Morning Consult desired.
  • Comfort reading and writing basic to intermediate SQL and/or Python queries.
  • Ability to work independently with raw data formats, from accessing the data to writing queries to extracting, cleaning, transforming and blending into a final form.
  • Strong data profiling skills and statistical literacy to independently judge accuracy, quality, validity and explanatory power (usefulness) of data sets.
  • Confidence to proactively evaluate strengths and weaknesses of a data set and articulate to end users of analysis based on same data.
  • Must be a self-starter who takes initiative
  • Must have sound verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and the ability to cogently explain key information to various audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including ability to effectively interact, collaborate with, and influence key stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
  • Must be comfortable traveling up to 50% of time


USD 119,600.00 - 199,400.00 per year

Compensation:

Compensation includes a base salary of $119,600.00 - $199,400.00. The base salary may vary within the anticipated base pay range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include an incentive program.
