Principal Engineer I - Full Stack Developer

What you'll do:

Western Alliance Bank is seeking an experienced, passionate, highly skilled and results-driven full stack developer to deliver innovative, industry leading solutions. We want a creative, skilled, highly motivated lead developer who can take initiative, have good sense of urgency and is comfortable working in a fast paced, agile environment.

You'll provide SME expertise in your respective domain as well as adjacent domains to ensure solutions are safe, secure, compliant and reliable. You'll identify development and support needs as well as take on large and complex design responsibilities supporting project tasks. You'll also engage with project and business sponsors refining requirements and objectives of targeted solutions. You will also facilitate dialogue and activities, and work to ensure team collaboration including teams outside of your domain. You'll develop effective presentations and narratives for IT audiences. In this role, you'll also develop the technical skills of one more junior engineers.
  • Works both independently and as part of a cohesive team to deliver innovative software solutions to customers and business partners.
  • Analyzes business requirements and translates those requirements into tangible work tasks.
  • Collaborates closely with peer developers, QA testers, and business partners to deliver high-quality solutions in a timely manner.
  • Architect, design, create and maintain the full stack of customer-facing cloud-based applications.
  • Participate in the creation of new products and prototypes from scratch.
  • Develop front and back-end app architecture.
  • Contribute to continuous improvements through automation and design efficiencies of the existing product suite.
  • Conduct code reviews.
  • Ensure products are responsive and optimized for a variety of devices such as low-end mobile phones, desktop.
  • Proactively identify and fix issues to improve backend service scalability, resiliency, and fault tolerance.
  • Respond to urgent bugs in a timely manner alongside engineers.
  • Help foster good software engineering practices.
  • Follow relevant company procedures and help create and maintain relevant documentation.
  • Actively participate in all aspects of the software engineering process.

What you'll need:

  • 8+ years of experience in analyzing, designing and developing using Microsoft Technologies and .NET framework including Angular and REST APIs.

  • 5+ years of experience designing, implementing, and maintaining CI/CD pipeline to automate build, test, deployment processes, and manage data pipelines using Azure Data Factory.
  • Bachelor's degree in related field required; Masters or MBA in related field preferred.
  • Experience working in other UI technologies like React, Node JS, Vue JS, Java, Groovy
  • Solid working experience in building applications using .Net MVC, Entity Framework, LINQ, SQL Server, JavaScript, HTML and CSS.
  • 5+ years of experience with IaaS, PaaS and SaaS resources in Azure or AWS cloud technologies.
  • 5+ years' solutioning and designing high available client facing production grade responsive applications.
  • 5+ years of experience using Git, TFS/Azure DevOps for source control / project tracking / build management.
  • Thorough understanding of the responsibilities of the platform, database, API, caching layer, proxies, and other web services used in the system.
  • Work in Scrum/Agile environment to plan and estimate the work at different levels.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of general Financial Services or Banking is preferred.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of applicable regulatory and legal compliance obligations, rules and regulations, industry standards and practices.
  • Advanced to expert experience in leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple projects simultaneously with an established expertise in one or more key domains of the bank (Deposits, Loans, Operations or Reporting) with the ability to walk through top level process design. Capable of working with regulatory partners like the CFPB, OCC and FRB through audits and collaboration efforts as situations arise.
  • Advanced to expert familiarity with the capability model across IT and the applications and infrastructures available for engagement in solutioning across the bank to develop results that leverage existing capabilities in addition to implementing new solutions when required. Experience in the design, enhancement and compliance to all governance frameworks across the IT organization to ensure proper compliance to published procedures and standards.
  • Advanced speaking and writing communication skills.
