Job Summary:

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Colorado Anschutz School of Medicine seeks an outstanding candidate for a Biostatistician position. Applicants with a background in statistical and computational methods in molecular biological science and related areas are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will join an established team that is leading research efforts in the intersection between brain health and biological processes. The team is one of the premier organizations that has existing clinical and preclinical studies and will continue with future studies that improve psychological health outcomes, detects risk and protective factors in mental health, and determines biological mechanisms associated with brain health. This highly collaborative team performs high-impact studies that allow them to develop new strategies to ameliorate dysbiosis and neuroinflammation and reduce chronic disease burden.

Key Responsibilities:

Bioinformatics Nature of Work: 50%

Successful individuals will participate in the development, validation, implementation and quality control for bioinformatics. This position will include identifying and implementing state of the art bioinformatics techniques for innovative analysis. Additionally, this position will assist with clinical study development to identify novel biological targets and advises how those measurements can be applied to bioinformatics analysis.

Examples of Duties Performed:

* Conducts and supports research projects in bioinformatics related to brain health.

  • Conducted bioinformatics analysis that integrates longitudinal data from large scale human biological samples and determine associations with brain health.

* Works with the leadership to develop high-fidelity bioinformatics and data basing approaches including the development of comprehensive analysis software, development of databases, database curation, and visualization of analysis results and real-time troubleshooting as needed.

* Identifies novel methods and integrates bioinformatics and statistics into computational pipelines that streamlines processing and reduces analytical time when processing data.

Statistician Nature of Work: 30%

Providing expertise on analytic methods and plans while managing, preparing, and analyzing data from current program evaluation projects. Supporting electronic medical record database and distributed data network projects in efforts including developing data harmonization, data quality evaluation, and data standardization to support the learning health care system and research

Examples of Duties Performed

  • Develop appropriate data analysis plans for individual projects, including quantitative and qualitative methods
  • Manage and clean incoming data
  • Perform descriptive analyses to summarize program performance
  • Work closely with the project teams to prepare reports for funding agency and funded programs with recommendations for program improvement.
  • Under the guidance of the Program Director, work with clinical departments in the School of Medicine to collect care outcomes from various stakeholder's perspectives in order to improve patient care

Technical Writing Nature of Work: 20%

Provide support for technical writing that includes reports, grant development, and manuscript preparation. Successful individuals will lead development and dissemination of research publications and reports involving the data and analysis conducted.

* Provides oversight and technical writing in support of future grants

* Leads and supports manuscript preparations in high-impact journals

The Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) programs span the range of services with the latest advances in rehabilitation care for children and adults with complex medical needs. Subspecialties, related programs and affiliates together embody one of the most skilled (and recognized) groups of rehabilitation experts in the nation. The PM&R department has 15 offices with ~2500 square feet of space and 5 cubicles with ~400 square feet of space for faculty and research staff. PM&R has 11 full-time administrative staff, responsible for department coordination, grants and contract management, and technology management.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

* A M.S. degree in a relevant field associated with mathematics, statistics, or computational science.

* Five years experience in field of bioinformatics, statistics, or related field.

* Published manuscripts in high-impact scientific journals

* Previous bioinformatics expertise that is focused on human studies

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$97,000 to $135,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
