Overview

This person is responsible for conducting tests on complex electrical, electronic, and mechanical equipment. This Engineer will be trained to perform testing and commissioning on electrical equipment including but not limited to power transformers, protective relays, circuit breakers, control and supervisory equipment, voltage regulators and other equipment within an electric power substation, generating station, or industrial plant.


Responsibilities

  • Perform tests on electrical equipment including but not limited to power transformers, protective relays, circuit breakers, control and supervisory equipment, voltage regulators and other equipment within an electric power substation, generating station, or industrial plant
  • Recognize, understand, and utilize the latest industry testing and commissioning standards and guidelines such as IEEE and NETA
  • Provide highest level of customer service and consistently delivers a quality product. Maintains highly professional and respectful relationship with clients.
  • Promote efficient flow of information and ensure complete and accurate record keeping
  • Adhere to and understand project requirements including but not limited to scopes of work, budgets, schedules, specific client requirements, project deliverables, and project closeout
  • Become familiar with the Company-s drawing system, ANSI Standards, National Electric Safety Code, and the Company-s design and construction standards
  • Meet the expectations set by TRC for job position as defined in job description and TRC Testing and Commissioning Manual
  • Provide timely responses to the Management Team when asked to provide information, perform tasks, or other duties as assigned
  • Utilizing required PPE, assist Senior Test Technicians and Lead Commissioning Engineers in providing safe testing - commissioning services to customers
  • Conduct TRC-s formal walkdown procedure prior to energizing any equipment

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience - Either an Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Power Systems or 4-year electrical apprenticeship program graduate with 3+ years of relevant work experience in performing tests on electrical equipment including power transformers, protective relays, circuit breakers, control and supervisory equipment, voltage regulators and other equipment within an electric power substation, generating station, or industrial plant and commissioning such equipment. Internships or actual experience within electrical utilities testing or commercial, industrial or powerplant electrical testing - commissioning is highly preferred.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn quickly: electrical protection systems, including relay communications. Average understanding of AC and DC schematics, wiring and interconnect drawings, one line and three-line diagrams. Understand design intent of all protection and control (P-C) circuits
  • Experience with any of the following electrical testing is highly preferred: SF6 Gas, Oil Sampling, Vacuum Bottle Integrity, Core-Ground Test, Insulation Resistance, Winding Resistance, Nitrogen System, Power Factor, Excitation, Sweep Frequency Response Analysis, Turns Ratio, Polarity, Dielectric Withstand, Motion Analysis, Operating Mechanism Inspection, Contact Resistance, Capacitance, Inductance, Impedance, Disconnect Jaw and Blade Alignment, Battery Strap and Cell Resistance/Specific Gravity/Load Tests
  • Must be available for out-of-town travel of up to several weeks at a time and travel
  • Must be available to work weekends, overtime, holidays and night work as needed
  • Must have excellent verbal and written skills and be able to communicate and negotiate effectively with Clients. Coworkers and Management
  • Must have solid computer skills
  • US citizenship or U.S. permanent resident status required
  • Valid driver's license issued by US state of residence and in good standing is required and ability to complete compliant background checks and drug testing

Compensation: In accordance with local law, the below salary range is applicable for the job and location associated with this requisition. Compensation will vary based upon experience, education, skill level, geographical location, and other compensable factors.

Other Compensation: Employee may be eligible for participation in the Company's annual Discretionary Bonus Program which is contingent on Company, Business Segment, and Individual performance against Key Performance Indicators which vary by year and employee.

Salary Range

USD $131,518.00 - USD $176,800.00 /Yr.
