Enterprise Architect - IT Innovation Initiatives

Department:IT Division - Innovation Initiatives Team
Reports To:Senior Director - IT Innovation Initiatives

MaineHealth is seeking a strategic and technically skilled Enterprise Architect to lead the design and evolution of IT infrastructure in support of our IT Innovation Initiatives Team. This role is responsible for the architectural design and strategic planning of enterprise-level IT projects, ensuring systems and infrastructure deliver optimal performance, availability, and scalability.

In collaboration with cross-functional teams and in close alignment with technology services-including network, telecom, firewall, end-user computing, and platform services (e.g., compute, storage, backup and recovery, and server operating systems-Windows/LINUX) -the architect translates complex business workflows into actionable technical specifications. They play a key role in executing strategic IT roadmaps across clinical, financial, research, and administrative domains.

Projects may include deploying new software platforms, implementing hardware solutions, and building infrastructure to support new care delivery sites. These initiatives are high-impact and high-visibility, often operating under aggressive timelines that demand precision, agility, and a strong focus on delivering results on time and within budget.

What you will do:

  • Develop and maintain a future-ready infrastructure architecture roadmap aligned with digital health innovation goals.
  • Ensure infrastructure supports interoperability, data privacy, and compliance with healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH).Integrate emerging technologies such as AI/ML, IoT, and edge computing into the enterprise architecture.
  • Research and understand evolving organizational needs and translate them into infrastructure capabilities.
  • Mentor across IT on best practices for supporting digital health innovation.
  • Develop and maintain architectural artifacts including reference models, standards, and solution blueprints.Communicate complex infrastructure concepts to technical and clinical stakeholders effectively.
  • Support deployment of cloud-native solutions and real-time data analytics.
  • Establish architectural governance frameworks that ensure security, scalability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Provide architectural guidance for pilots and proof-of-concept initiatives, ensuring alignment with enterprise standards.

Additional Skills/Requirements Preferred: Superior knowledge of computer systems and methods utilized for data input, storage, and data flows to translate workflow information into specifications which meet the needs of the organization. Strong understanding of backend infrastructure technologies as well as client systems and their inter-operations
