Description The Senior Manager, Epic Ambulatory Applications is a key leader within the Information Systems (IS) Division at Children's National Hospital, responsible for the implementation, optimization, and support of Epic ambulatory clinical applications across primary care and specialty clinics. This role leads a team of analysts and collaborates closely with ambulatory care providers, clinical operations, and practice leadership to ensure Epic tools support efficient workflows, patient safety, and regulatory compliance.

Reporting to the Director, Epic Clinical Applications, this position blends Epic expertise, operational awareness, and leadership to drive improvements in outpatient care delivery and advance strategic initiatives across the enterprise.
Qualifications

Minimum Education



  • Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with major course work in computer science, Information Technology, engineering, or equivalent related experience. (Required)
  • Master's Degree (Preferred)


Minimum Work Experience



  • 7 years, A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in healthcare IT or clinical systems support (Required)
  • 5 years, At least five (5) years of experience working within the Ambulatory services setting. (Required)
  • 3 years, A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a formal leadership role overseeing teams, projects, or operational functions is required. (Required)

  • Advanced EHR System Expertise - In-depth understanding of functionality, configuration, and advanced workflows, with the ability to oversee complex system enhancements and drive optimizations that align with organizational objectives.

  • Change Management & Organizational Transformation - Expertise in leading large-scale change management efforts, guiding teams through system transitions, upgrades, and process changes.   • Leadership & Team Development - Proven ability to lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team, providing strategic direction, fostering a culture of innovation and accountability, and ensuring ongoing professional growth for team members.
  • Process Improvement & Operational Excellence - Strong track record of identifying opportunities for system and process improvement, applying advanced methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) to drive operational efficiency, streamline workflows, and ensure high-quality system performance.
  • Customer-Centric Approach - Strong focus on aligning system capabilities with user needs, ensuring that Epic applications support clinical, operational, and administrative teams effectively. In addition to ensuring system functionality, this role requires a focus on the broader customer experience and continuous improvement.


Required Licenses and Certifications



  • Epic Certification 60 Days, (Required)

    • This position requires that the appropriate Epic certification be successfully obtained and maintained for the assigned area of responsibility within 6 weeks of completing training, if not obtained prior to hire.

  • Roadmap Development & Execution - Create and maintain a strategic roadmap for assigned Epic modules, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals and industry best practices.
  • Issue Resolution & Root Cause Analysis - Drive total ownership of Epic-related issues, ensuring timely investigation, root cause analysis, and resolution while implementing preventative measures.
