The Professional Development Supervisor supervises the Career Coach, Early Childhood Apprentices, Interns and Volunteers and oversees the Coaching Model for the Early Head Start Program. The Professional Development Supervisor partners with the Career Coach to ensure that apprentices, interns and volunteers are given the support, training, experiences and resources to be successful. This supervisor will work collaboratively with the Early Childhood/Early Head Start team and across all programs at the agency to implement the Early Childhood Workforce Development Program, to expand and develop the current and next generation of Early Childhood professionals. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supports and promotes the mission of the Agency: Foothill Family empowers children and families on their journey to achieve personal success.
- Develops, implements, and oversees coaching and mentoring for apprentices, interns, and volunteers in Early Childhood appropriate to their capacities, roles, and professional development goals.
- Recruits eligible participants for the Early Childhood Workforce Development Program from Early Head Start, Foothill Family Programs, and external partners.
- Designs and develops internal and external internship and volunteer placements for students and builds memorandums of understanding with placements.
- Identifies and coordinates appropriate onboarding, trainings and professional development opportunities for workforce development participants.
- Conducts document reviews, observations and other monitoring activities and gives feedback to apprentices, interns and volunteers for skills development.
- Connects workforce development participants with peer mentors for training, shadowing and observation experiences.
- Provides training and support to peer mentors.
- Connects workforce development participants with volunteer and internship experiences and liaises with each placement supervisor to monitor the student's progress.
- Provides feedback on the quality and effectiveness of Child Development or other Early Childhood Education coursework by the Professional Development Specialist or other trainers to the Career Coach to ensure that students are benefiting and achieving their academic goals as intended.
- Complete the verification observations for the Pathways To Professionals (PTP) students.
- Gathers, analyzes, and reports on outcomes to meet the goals and objectives of the Early Childhood Workforce Development Program.
- As required, extends coaching and mentoring support to other staff.
- Provides services relating to the administration of public funds or benefits, including eligibility for public funds or public benefits.
- Supports Agency policies, the smooth functioning and communication within the agency. Work effectively and cooperatively with other agency staff, collaborating when appropriate.
- Models ethical and professional behavior.
- Travels between Foothill Family and Child Care Partner sites for training, meetings, and other in-person interactions.
- Attends in-person meetings and events at various locations within the Los Angeles County and surrounding areas.
- Displays sensitivity to the service population's cultural and socioeconomics characteristics.
- Performs work in a safe manner at all times and ensures employees are abiding by safety practices; takes action when employees put themselves or others at risk.
- Follows all policies, procedures and legal mandates including HIPAA, client confidentiality, releases of information, protected health information (PHI) and client files.
- Ensures performance and behaviors support the Agency's performance quality improvement (PQI) goals and objectives.
- Reports to work on time and maintains reliable and regular attendance.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Agency's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Examines, analyzes and evaluates program operations, productivity data and personnel needs, prepares necessary reports and makes recommendations to reconcile program budget(s) and resource allocations.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Three or more years of experience providing home visiting or classroom teaching for children under the age of 3 (both experiences are preferred).
- Early Head Start experience preferred.
- Supervisory and/or mentor/coaching experience required 2 years or more.
- Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or equivalent field required.
- Demonstrated competency in training, mentoring, and coaching others towards excellence and capacity building.
- Exhibits leadership, initiative, flexibility, creativity, and enthusiasm.
- Ability to work with a team and adapt to the changes and challenges of implementing a new program.
- Ability to be an excellent representative of the agency to the community.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to read and write complex material.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to relate harmoniously with staff and clients of diverse ethnic and economic backgrounds.
- Computer literacy.
- Valid CA Driver's License and maintains insurability on the Agency's auto liability policy (including a minimum of 2 years driving experience after receiving license) and maintains the California state required personal auto insurance liability limits OR maintains reliable transportation to attend all appointments and meetings as required in the position.
- Bilingual Spanish/English skills required.
- Provides care or services to minors or comes into contact with minors as part of their job duties.
- Provides services relating to the administration of public funds or benefits, including eligibility for public funds or public benefits.
- Must not be excluded, suspended, debarred or otherwise made ineligible on the Federal, State or County Sanctions lists.
