Job Summary

VSolvit is seeking a skilled System Administrator to support our government customer as part of the NS-DSS Program. This position focuses on maintaining and supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems across both on-premise and cloud environments. The System Administrator will ensure secure, stable, and high-performance operations of infrastructure systems, contributing to system architecture, implementation, and support in accordance with DoD and industry best practices.

You will work closely with cross-functional IT and engineering teams to maintain uptime, resolve system issues, deploy patches, and implement new solutions that support mission-critical functions. This role requires a self-motivated professional with strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to security and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

System Management and Administration

  • Install, configure, and maintain RHEL and other Linux-based systems, as well as some Windows servers as required
  • Administer user accounts, permissions, and directory services such as Active Directory
  • Apply security patches, system updates, and manage OS hardening in accordance with compliance requirements

Monitoring and Troubleshooting

  • Monitor system performance, availability, and resource utilization
  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, and network-related issues; escalate as needed
  • Support incident response and root cause analysis to minimize downtime

Networking and Security

  • Maintain and secure network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPNs
  • Monitor and respond to security alerts and implement preventative measures
  • Support compliance with DoD cybersecurity frameworks (e.g., NIST 800-53, RMF)

Cloud and Virtualization

  • Administer and support virtual environments (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Support deployments in cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP

Collaboration and Documentation

  • Collaborate with QA, DevOps, and Development teams to support CI/CD workflows
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of systems, procedures, and configurations
  • Provide technical mentorship to junior administrators and support end users

Support and Maintenance

  • Participate in on-call rotation and provide after-hours support when necessary
  • Respond to and resolve service desk tickets in a timely, professional manner
  • Support backup and disaster recovery processes

Basic Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, OR equivalent work experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in system administration in Linux-based environments
  • Experience with:
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux or similar distributions
  • Windows Server administration
  • Virtualization platforms (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V)
  • Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN
  • Hands-on experience with system automation tools (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell)
  • Experience with system monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios, SolarWinds)
  • Understanding of security principles and patch management
  • CompTIA Security+ certification (or ability to obtain within 6 months)
  • U.S. Citizenship required
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • If applicable: If you are or have been recently employed by the U.S. government, a post-employment ethics letter will be required if employment with VSolvit is offered

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in IT, Computer Science, or related discipline
  • 5+ years of system administration experience, particularly in DoD or federal environments
  • Experience with:
    1. Active Directory, Group Policy, and Microsoft Exchange
    2. Container platforms (Docker, Kubernetes)
    3. DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, Terraform)
    4. Firewalls and security appliances (e.g., Cisco ASA, Palo Alto)
    5. Familiarity with ITIL practices and frameworks.
    6. VMware certification or related credentials.
    7. Experience with RMF, STIGs, or NIST 800-53 security standards.
    8. Active DoD SECRET Clearance highly preferred.
