Description
The Operations Manager is responsible for leading the site operations team to ensure that the product portfolio is manufactured to the required quality, yield, throughput, cost and quantity to meet customer demand/business need without compromise to health, safety and environmental performance.

Job Details

Role Specific Responsibilities:

  • Ensures that site operates to, and complies with, US and corporate statutory regulations and policies. Including, but not limited to OSHA and Environmental and personnel protection regulations.



  • Enforces the organization's environmental, health and safety programs and work safety standards to protect employees and the company against harm, maintains safe working conditions and ensures compliance with environmental regulations



  • Manages site operations by directing and coordinating activities, ensuring that the site manufactures product safely, on time, in full and to the right quality and cost, in accordance with agreed schedules, standard operating procedures and standards to satisfy customer demand/business needs and to meet established goals, objectives and policies



  • Supervises and actively leads the skilled direct labor employees. Oversees direct labor scheduling, daily work and batch record review, training, development planning, coaching, conducting performance reviews, implementing improvement plans, etc.



  • Leads the execution of the production plan - displaying ownership of operations direct labor pool, optimizing cost and facilitating long term labor plan, succession planning and organizational/departmental structure



  • Drives Continuous Improvement across all site activities to improve efficiency and reduce waste by implementing appropriate programs (i.e. Lean Six Sigma) and projects, and taking responsibility for continuous learning for both self and the business



  • Supports new product introductions, implementations and evaluations



  • Maintains authority over budget and scheduling for areas of responsibility



  • Drives cost reductions through control of overhead spending, inventory, cost of goods, procurement initiatives, vendor relationships, and use of automation



  • Communicates regularly and effectively with all stakeholders. Ensures effective communication among shifts and departments to support efficient operations.



  • Leads emergency response activities



  • Helps manage the site hazardous/non-hazardous waste in coordination with EHS



  • Oversees employees' attendance and hours worked and supports tracking in the Aurorium payroll system



  • Acts as liaison with other functional areas throughout the facility and collaborates as needed with Engineering and Quality teams to identify, troubleshoot (root cause investigation), and resolve problems or issues



  • Monitors inventory control processes and makes adjustment to stay within production schedule, budgets and established targets



  • Assists in maintenance of various production equipment and writes maintenance work orders to repair equipment when needed



  • Maintains Aurorium Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP); identifies, drives and/or supports improvements to site procedures



  • Completes other project work as necessary to support safe, efficient and productive operations



  • Maintains outstanding housekeeping and 5S



  • Enters SAP production data and facilitates batch record review



Compliance:
  • Complies with company Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures, and arrangements
  • Reports all Health, Safety and Environmental accidents, incidents and near misses promptly
  • Acts in a safe and responsible manner at all times

  • Participates in problem-solving
  • Takes responsibility and ownership for own learning and development in the spirit of continuous improvement of both self and the business
  • Assists in the training, mentoring, and assessment of other team members
  • Exercises autonomy and judgement subject to overall direction or guidance

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Bachelors of Science required, preferably in an Engineering discipline such as Chemical or Mechanical

  • 5+ years of related manufacturing experience with preference given to experience in a supervisory role



  • Experience wearing required PPE including safety glasses, hard hat, steel toe shoes, gloves, and a respirator



  • Training and/or experience in Lean Six Sigma, with preference given to at least a Green belt certification



  • Excellent leadership, coaching, communication and planning skills



  • Self-motivated and ability to work within a fast- paced environment



  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to adapt quickly to changing business needs and priorities



  • Critical thinking and conflict resolution skills and analytical abilities which allow assessment of customer service issues, situations and opportunities



  • Excellent proficiency within Microsoft products (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint) as well as SAP



  • Willingness to work a non-standard shift, weekends, and/or off-time as needed



  • Ability to work independently to resolve issues or problems on a day-to-day basis
