Organizational Unit Overview |
This position is housed in the Pirate Academic Success Center (
PASC), the centralized learning center serving undergraduates at East Carolina University. The Learning Specialist will report directly to the Associate Director of the Pirate Academic Success Center. |
Job Duties |
Duties and responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to the following:
Student Services (40%)
- Provides academic success services for ECU students.
- Provides academic coaching services through one-on-one meetings with students.
- Collaborates with other units on campus to ensure students are receiving services.
- Tracks and responds to Starfish alerts for courses served by the PASC.
- Conducts or supports delivery of student seminars.
Outreach, Recruitment, and Campus Programming (30%)
- Supports recruitment of tutors into the tutoring services program.
- Conducts regular outreach to faculty and other college staff as needed to support student success.
- Organizes periodic special events and programs for students, faculty and staff.
- Works collaboratively with PASC team.
Tutoring Services Oversight (30%)
- Maintains accurate tracking data and notes for student tutors.
- Makes recommendations to improve program offerings.
- Assists with Peer Educator training and certification processes.
This position is contingent upon available funding. |
Minimum Education/Experience |
This position requires a Bachelor's degree from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience or a Master's degree from an appropriately accredited institution. |

Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education |
Candidates with experience with at risk students and high school or college settings will be highly considered. The ideal candidate would have experience in classroom teaching or academic support services as it relates to student success and academic strategies. |
