Summary
|
The Budget Associate position will maintain financial files for two grant-funded programs according to King-Chavez-Parks guidelines. Duties include, but are not limited to, ordering supplies, making travel arrangements, and providing administrative support for all program activities.

Responsibilities and Essential Duties
|
1. Perform quarterly and final expenditure reporting for both KCP MICUP and 4S programs in the NexSys Grant Management System. 2. Assist the MICUP Coordinator with planning the MICUP poster presentation and banquet. 3. Organize travel for the MICUP and 4S coordinator. This includes purchasing airline tickets, booking hotels, rental cars, and travel reimbursement forms, as well as cash advance requests. 4. Assist the 4S Coordinator with organizing program events and activities. This may include purchasing supplies, developing promotional materials, or outreach to scholars. 5. Actively participate in Student Support and Mentorship weekly staff meetings and serve on committees within the Student Affairs division as needed. 6. Attend KCP Professional Development Zoom meetings. 7. Attend events and work flexible hours as needed. Some evenings and weekends will be required. 8. Seek new ways to improve efficiency and commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work. Actively engage in the university's continuous improvement initiatives. 9. Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work. 10. Other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Certifications, Licensures
|
High school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired.

Required Experience
|
* Two or more years of experience in the areas of budgeting, accounting, or financial administration. * Two or more years of experience with word processing, database management, and spreadsheets * Two or more years working with individuals from a variety of backgrounds
|
Desirable Education and/or Experience
|
* Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or related field from an accredited college or university, or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired. * Experience with grant-funded program budgets * Experience working in an educational setting * Experience working with college students * One to three years of professional experience in education, student affairs, or comparable experience.

* Knowledge and understanding of issues significant to college students from a variety of backgrounds. * Ability to plan and implement educational and informational programs in a diverse cultural environment. * Experience working with grant management systems (SCRIBE, NexSys, Cayuse, etc.) * Experience in student-based programming related to first-generation, Pell-eligible, and low-income student populations * Experience with identifying educational challenges and barriers faced by first-generation, Pell-eligible, low-income, transfer, and non-traditional students

Required Training and Other Conditions of Employment
|
Every employee at Michigan Technological University will receive the following training courses; additional training may be required by the department. Required University Training:

- Annual Data Security Training
- Anti-Harassment, Discrimination, Retaliation Training
- Annual Title IX Training
Additional training will be required by the department on a periodic basis. Background Check: Offers of employment are contingent upon and not considered finalized until the required background check has been performed and the results received and assessed.
