Your Role on the Team
Under the general direction of Director, SOM Decision Support Services, and as an integral part of the DSS technical team, incumbent is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining complex home-grown systems. As part of the Decision Support staff, this position will play a significant role in the enhancement/modification of existing and future DSS Web Applications, maintenance of database programs integrated with DSS home grown systems. This individual is expected to work with SOM Associated Dean/CAO/CFO, Dean's Office Directors, Financial Managers and Analysts, as well as the other departmental CAOs and Personnel, provide technical and non-technical assistance on all DSS systems and their local environment.

Required:
- Intermediate knowledge of secure software development.
- Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts.
- Demonstrated software repository skills. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
- Thorough experience with common programming tools. Demonstrated ability to follow software specifications.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.
- Demonstrated broad problem solving skills.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with web programming in ASP.Net, VB.NET, HTML, XML, CSS, JavaScript, Bootstrap, and jQuery.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with web programming in ASP.Net MVC architecture.
- Strong knowledge of and experience with source control technology, Subversion, or Git.
- Demonstrated skill to analyze current system modules in order to redesign functional modules with more modern software tools and programming languages.
- Demonstrated skill and experience in SDLC, software development planning, systems design, project management, user training, operational training, system maintenance and recovery.
- Experience and knowledge of SQL programming; stored procedures, functions, triggers, views, indexes, and tuning.
- Experience in data extraction and query tools, conversion of data to/from multiple formats, import techniques and file formats (Excel, Access, SQL, CSV) for moving data from one platform to another.
- Significant knowledge of data modeling, table design, and RDMS.
- Knowledge of multidimensional reporting/analysis tools such as Tableau, Cognos, and Business Intelligence.
- Experience in help desk or production support environment, with large scales of web and database programming projects.
- Demonstrated in the environment to handle multi-tasking in both production supports and scheduled projects and must have good skills of time and project management.
- Demonstrated skill to work as an independent, self-motivated productive member of a team, and a good team player.
- Demonstrated skill to contribute both technical and non-technical discussions and to recommend solutions to technical problems.
- Knowledge of DBA functions, such as SQL database backup/restore, query tuning, scheduled jobs, and monitor, is plus.
- At least 4 to 5 years of relevant work experience with a BA/BS; or at least 2 to 3 years of relevant work experience with MA/MS; or equivalent work experience.
- At least 2 years web programming experience using in VB.Net technology and Visual Studio.
- At least 2 years database programming experience in MS SQL, Oracle, DB2, or any SQL coding.
Preferred:
- Demonstrated ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Demonstrated ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
- Demonstrated ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute technical narrative to grant proposals.
- Thorough experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums.
- Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical personnel at various levels in the organization.
- Working experience with Tableau and MS Reporting Services, is plus.
- Experience in supporting Finance, Accounting, or HR team is plus.
- Knowledge of UCI data warehouse and business systems, or any higher education data is plus.
- Knowledge of School of Medicine business functions and systems supporting those functions (accounting, payroll, research, students, physician billing) is plus.
