Salary Range Starting at: $45,000.00

Job Objective:

As the Facilities Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, safety, security, and operational functionality of all Salvation Army buildings and properties. This includes ensuring facilities are clean, well-maintained, code-compliant ...ensuring that the Mission of The Salvation Army is effectively carried out.

This role requires proactive planning, team coordination, vendor management, and hands-on problem-solving. The Facilities Manager collaborates with Officers, Unit Administrators, and other key stakeholders to ensure facility-related needs are met efficiently, ethically, and in alignment with The Salvation Army's values, policies, and procedures.

What You Will Do:



  • Oversee regular maintenance, preventative upkeep, and repair of all major systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, roofing, etc.)


    • Update and maintain maintenance management software (Archibus)


  • Work with Corps Officers and Unit Administrators to develop and implement a preventative maintenance plan and replacement schedule
  • Prepare reports and assessments for leadership regarding facility conditions and future needs
  • Conduct routine inspections of all properties to ensure cleanliness, safety, and compliance with local/state regulations
  • Participate in and respond to Risk Management inspections, as well as other internal and external inspections and compliance activity
  • Respond to urgent facility issues promptly and develop emergency response protocols
  • Implement and maintain OSHA and ADA compliance, security measures, and safety protocols across all sites
  • In conjunction with Corps Officers, Unit Administrators, and other key staff, develop and monitor facilities budget(s); monitor expenses and provide cost-saving recommendations
  • Contribute to long-term facility planning and sustainability efforts, including energy efficiency and stewardship of resources
  • As directed, lead or assist with capital improvement projects, renovations, and/or emergency repairs


    • Facilitate the completion of gaining bids, preparing and submitting proposals, and managing projects in accordance with The Salvation Army's processes.



  • Attend both internal and external meetings relevant to this position, and as a member of the CIAC/ DHQ team
  • Maintain a list of acceptable and preferred vendors, contractors, and technicians
  • Assist with logistics and transportation of supplies, equipment, and individuals for special events, major projects, etc.


  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership


Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: Highschool Diploma or Equivalent; Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Facilities Management, or related field preferred

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in facilities management, maintenance, or building operations (nonprofit or human services and/or residential settings preferred). A combination of education and experience will be considered

Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver's qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Must complete DOT certification and qualify as a driver for the box truck within the first 30 days of employment.

Skills/Abilities:



  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and the ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • Be a multi-tasker, able to prioritize several projects at the same time, and exercise sound judgment and confidentiality.
  • Must be a self-starter, able to work in an office, church, indoor or outdoor, and in a construction setting.


Supervisory Responsibility: No direct reports; however, you will aid in the recruitment, onboarding, training, and oversight of facilities and maintenance personnel throughout the CIAC

Physical Requirements Include:



  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds
  • May require bending, squatting, walking.

Travel: Work concentrated on Central Indiana with potential for occasional travel (through Indiana and/or Chicagoland) for conferences, training, or consultations.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office, warehouse, medical facility, church environment; may require some weekend and evening work, and must be available as "on call" for emergencies.
