Senior Aerospace SSP, specializes in designing, manufacturing, and qualifying complex ducting systems for aerospace applications. Since its humble roots in 1945, the campus has now expanded to include a 59,000 sq. ft high-volume production facility, in addition to its legacy 131,000 ft2 main buildings which combined, accommodate over 500 employees. Vertically integrated with its own foundry, fabrication shop, and ISO certified engineering lab, Senior Aerospace SSP acquired by Senior PLC in 1995 and has continued its expansion into new programs and technologies. What does the job involve? Summary: The Manufacturing Engineer III (ME III) works mainly within the operations group supporting operations and production requirements. The ME III also supports Design and Project Engineering reviewing and collaborating to produce design data/research and perform production implementation activities. Based on design requirements defined through drawings and specifications, the ME III plans and prepares manufacturing documentation according to Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) practices, including Visual Work Instructions (VWI). The ME III determines equipment, tooling plans, and cellular manufacturing concepts for their assigned areas of responsibility. The ME III will originate and develop new manufacturing and tooling concepts providing data to Estimating for quoting customer requests. Prepares reports showing areas for improvements, will run improvement projects, shows results and initiate efforts in the development of new manufacturing and production techniques. Applies Lean methods and Six Sigma practices. Determines required resources within the production department. The ME III will work alongside the Quality Engineer, Supervisor and Scheduler on the production cell(s) management team. The Manufacturing Manager will define specific responsibilities for each Manufacturing Engineer in accordance with their area of expertise. These responsibilities shall be reviewed at least once annually preferably near/during the performance review period or as organizational changes occur. The ME III plans and carries out policies and procedures for manufacturing operations to optimize production techniques employed in the manufacturing departments. The ME III provides training and support to other Manufacturing Engineers when needed. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: As a self-starter, must be able to perform a variety of job duties including, but not limited to:
- Responsible for and the focal point for all technical aspects of assigned project(s) in the following categories:
- Compliance with customer/product procurement specification
- Validate that the manufacturing processes meet all customer and internal requirements.
- Initiate and drive product manufacturability
- Review and approve planning document releases
- Advanced Quality Planning (AQP)
- Directing and summarizing tooling requirements
- Creating Visual Work Instructions (VWI)
- Meeting cost targets
- Eliminating waste from the manufacturing processes
- Responsible for clear and concise work instructions of detail parts, sub assemblies, and top assemblies.
- Apply operation time standards as required, develop Work Combination Sheets (WCS).
- Ensure the manufacturability of detail parts, sub assemblies, top assemblies as applicable to projects/programs.
- Liaison and provide technical guidance between Senior Aerospace SSP manufacturing and customer cognizant engineering.
- Assigned to work with developing supplier processes and help correct supplier issues.
- Lead initial manufacturing cycle of all new detail parts, sub-assemblies and assemblies for assigned New Product Introduction (NPI).
- Clear understanding of the delivery schedule and adhere to that schedule. In case of conflict or if additional time is required to complete and validate the tooling and processes associated, the Manufacturing Engineer works with the assigned Contracts Administrator and the Operations Manager for schedule relief/change.
- Evaluate effectiveness of the manufacturing processes and implement improvements.
- Work to identify, implement and drive cost reduction ideas. May be assigned to or lead special cost reduction initiatives as part of a multi-discipline team.
- Primary technical support or leads a Production Support Team and/or partners with the other team members to address manufacturing issues.
- Performs Root Cause and Preventive Actions to eliminate root causes for nonconforming products.
- Perform, document and validate component, assembly, and/or system processes such as machining, forming, stamping, heat treating, and chemical processing of the following materials:
- Titanium
- Inconel
- Aluminum
- Stainless Steel
- 01 and D2 tooling steel
- Ensure that all engineering changes are documented and implemented.
- Coordinate and drive the design of tooling as it applies to the manufacturing/assembly process.
- Develop sound manufacturing processes based upon Senior Aerospace SSP's capabilities.
- Check production drawing(s) for technical content.
- Make recommendations and offer credible solutions to product, tooling and processes.
- Provides data and relevant information to the quoting process.
- Follow all Senior policies and procedures.
- Coach and support other Manufacturing Engineers on their process improvement projects and RCCA initiatives.
- Other duties with the work as assigned.

- S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or another Engineering discipline with 7+ years of engineering experience preferably in an Aerospace environment. M.S degree in Mechanical Engineering or another Engineering discipline with 6+ years of engineering experience in an Aerospace environment
- Must possess knowledge of sheet metal and aerospace materials.
- Must possess knowledge of sheet metal related processes (welding, forming, NDT, etc) and geometric tolerance.
Required Skills:
- Language: Must have excellent communication and inter-personal skills. Ability to read, comprehend, present, and write (in English) correspondence, work orders, policies, procedures, etc. Ability to prepare presentations and speak / present material to large groups of employees.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply a general understanding to carry out detailed, written and oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving many concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Mathematical Ability: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Other Abilities: Must have the ability to interact with employees of all levels and cultural backgrounds; must have the ability to handle many customers with a variety of requests; & must be able to effectively multi-task and quickly change from one task to the next and back. Must be a detail orientated, self-administrator able to work quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment. Knowledge of aircraft ECS ducting is preferred. Experience with SolidWorks design and CNC programming is preferred. Must have Project Management experience and experience creating Bills of Material and Manufacturing Routings in a modern software-based ERP environment. Be able to create work instructions and make planning changes, develop, document, and maintain knowledge database. Must be familiar with designed tooling utilizing Solid Works and be familiar with forming, machining, cleaning, welding, and heat treatment of the following materials: Titanium, Inconel, Aluminum, Stainless Steel, and 01 and D2 tooling steel.
