THE POSITION

The Department of Corrections (DOC) Human Resource (HR) Office for Region 4, the State Correctional Institutions (SCI) at Somerset & Laurel Highlands, is looking for a detail oriented Human Resource Analyst 1! DESCRIPTION OF WORK

This position provides professional level support within the DOC HR office with a primary focus on employee relations functions, as well as time advising for SCI Laurel Highlands. Responsibilities will involve providing guidance and support to facility managers and supervisors in all aspects of employee relations. You will also provide assistance and support to regional Employee Relations Manager (ERM). This includes gathering and reviewing incident investigative material; advising supervisors in the development of disciplinary changes; and gathering and analyzing information from reports, statements, and other documentation.

Our team will rely on you to prepare detailed recommendations of appropriate courses of action for ERMs and Field Human Resource Officers (FHRO). You will also be expected to evaluate grievances; review, interpret, and apply policies, procedures, collective bargaining agreements, and directives relating to assigned tasks; and seek guidance as needed. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to two days per week after successful completion of a six-month probationary period. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Somerset.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Successful completion of the Human Resource Management Trainee program (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year as a Human Resource Assistant 2 or an Equal Opportunity Assistant (Commonwealth job titles or equivalent Federal Government job titles, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • One year of paraprofessional analytical experience and a bachelor's degree;
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • You must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.
