Department Overview

Neenah-Menasha Fire Rescue (NMFR), an ISO Class 1 department serving the Cities of Neenah and Menasha, Wisconsin, with a combined population of approximately 45,500 people is seeking a dedicated and experienced professional to fill the role of Firefighter. Established on January 1, 2003, through the consolidation of the Neenah and Menasha Fire Departments, NMFR is committed to preserving lives and property within our communities. Our team of 68 career employees operates from four strategically located fire stations, providing efficient responses to emergencies, including fire suppression, EMS, auto extrication, and ice/water rescue.   • Associates' Degree in Fire Science.
  • EMT Basic, or higher State of Wisconsin license.

  • Wisconsin Driver/Operator - Pumper
  • Wisconsin Driver/Operator - Aerial
  • Wisconsin Fire Inspector I
  • Hazmat Operations
  • Wisconsin Fire Officer I, preferred but not required
  • SCUBA/PADI certification preferred but not required

Pay/Benefits
  • Salary: Starting January 1, 2025, minimum salary is $53,347.00. Annual step increases based on Labor Agreement. After three years of employment salary will be $67,452.00. Previous full-time firefighting experience will be taken into consideration and receives credit for starting at a higher rate

Hiring Process:
  • After application review, passing candidates will be emailed asking supplemental questions.
  • Passing applicants will be notified of in-person interview dates in November 2025.
  • Passing applicants will interview with the Neenah-Menasha Fire Commission
  • Passing applicants placed on an eligible list
  • If selected for hire, applicant must pass a physical, drug screen, audiogram, and swim test.
How to Apply
To be considered, complete the online application. Applications MUST include a cover letter, high school diploma, college transcript, completed CPAT certification with in the last 12 months, and resume to be considered. This position will remain open until filled, and applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.



Schedule:
The workday shall consist of a twenty-four (24) hour shift beginning at 7:00 a.m. and ending at 7:00 a.m. the following day. The normal work week shall consist of fifty-six (56) hours with a three (3) platoon system, operated on what is known as the "California" Plan, based on a nine day cycle commencing with one duty day, then one off-duty day, then one duty day, then one off-duty day, then one duty day, then four off-duty days.

Probationary Employees:
Per Local 275's Labor Agreement, all newly hired employees shall be on probation for a period of one year from their date of hire.

For the first 60 calendar days of work with the Department, probationary firefighters may be scheduled as determined by the Fire Chief. Scheduled time will not exceed the 56 hour workweek and FLSA rules will apply. Probationary firefighters will be available for emergency call-ins, short shift overtime and other non-scheduled times and will be compensated appropriately.

Training:
Probationary employees will complete five weeks of recruit training before they begin their line position. During these five weeks of training, recruits will work Monday through Friday, 8 hour days for a total of 40 hours per week.
