The Position: We are seeking a strategic Total Rewards Manager to oversee Walbec's total rewards programs and support the integration of total rewards into our organization's talent strategy. This is an opportunity to shape Walbec's total rewards philosophy and structure, which includes the development of our compensation philosophy, strategy and framework, and identify process improvements within our benefit plan offerings and wellness program, all to drive an improved employee experience. This role is the subject matter expert (SME) for Benefits Management and Compensation Management within our HR system, Workday, and has the opportunity to design the benefits and compensation features within Workday to drive an improved employee experience. Roles and responsibilities
Benefits Administration & Vendor Management
- Oversee all benefits programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability, FSA/HSA, 401(k), and wellness programs.
- Oversee and administer all leave programs, including paid paternity leave, FMLA, STD/LTD.
- Identify process improvements and enhancements to our benefit plan offerings in order to attract and retain top talent across the organization. Assess effectiveness of current programs and identify opportunities for improvement or innovation.
- Manage the relationship with our plan advisors, including contract negotiations, benefit vendor relationships, renewals, and performance evaluations.
- In coordination with our plan advisor, ensure all benefit plans are administered in compliance with company policies and applicable regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA).
- Lead the annual benefits open enrollment process, including system setup, communications, and troubleshooting.
Compensation Strategy Development & Management
- Develop the compensation strategy by aligning the company's vision, business and talent strategy, along with organizational growth goals, to a compensation philosophy and strategy that will position Walbec to win in a competitive market.
- Once the program is designed, this role will oversee the program administration and program evaluation to continually improve upon our strategy. This includes market pricing, job architecture, pay programs, and internal equity and compliance.
- Engage with stakeholders and effectively communicate the compensation philosophy and strategy across the organization; this includes educating senior leaders and managers and communicating our compensation strategy to attract and retain top talent.
Workday Expertise
- In 2025, this position is critical during the implementation of Workday. Long term this role serves as the Workday Benefits SME, managing configuration, testing, updates and upgrades, and troubleshooting within the platform.
- Collaborate across the HR Departments, IT, Finance and other stakeholders to ensure the accuracy and integrity of benefits data.
Compliance and Reporting
- Ensure total rewards programs comply with federal, state, and local regulations.
- Prepare and file required compliance documentation (e.g., 5500s, non-discrimination testing).
Generate reports and insights for HR leadership and executive teams to guide strategic planning.
The Candidate:
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field; relevant certification (e.g., CEBS, CBP/CCP, PHR/SPHR) a plus.
- Five or more years of experience in total rewards, with a focus on benefits and compensation.
- Two or more years of hands-on experience working within Workday, specifically with Benefits Management and/or Compensation Management.
- Strong vendor management and negotiation skills.
- Experience designing and implementing compensation structures.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Knowledge of relevant federal and state regulations affecting benefits and compensation.
