Job Summary:

The successful applicant will provide assistance to the SAIRF Research Services Assistant Director for the day to day operations of the UWCCC Small Animal Imaging & Radiotherapy Facility (SAIRF). The employee will operate and maintain preclinical MRI, microSPECT/CT, microPET/CT, in vivo optical and cell/animal irradiators. Based on specific needs of the research, the incumbent will make recommendations in the experimental design, execute imaging and therapy studies according to the experimental design, and advise/train researchers, scientists and faculty on system operation. They will be responsible for maintaining detailed records of all scans performed, agents injected, and data collected. This person will ensure timely interaction with investigators and researchers. The employee will handle and manipulate small animals to perform drug administration, inoculation, scanning, and tissue/blood collection. The successful candidate will hold local certification for small animal welfare as well as radiation, biological and chemical safety training. The incumbent will assist with animal care and husbandry of laboratory animals. The candidate will assist with the development and maintenance of protocols and standard operating procedures. The employee will work directly with other SAIRF staff, and they will report to the SAIRF Director and Manager.


Responsibilities:
Provides technical expertise, budget oversight, and/or staff supervision for a client-based research program to advance research.

  • 30% Assists with the design, monitoring, and execution of project-specific experiments. Identifies and resolves technical issues
  • 20% May direct the day-to-day activities of staff and resolve routine personnel issues
  • 5% Develops and facilitates research specific presentations to internal and external audiences
  • 10% Serves as a subject matter expert and unit liaison. Provides updates on project components and timelines to stakeholders as needed
  • 5% Develops operating policies and procedures to comply with regulations, institutional policies, and unit objectives
  • 10% Assists with the development and auditing of project-specific budgets
  • 10% Builds a sustained constituency of internal stakeholders, especially for MRI usage
  • 10% Serves as a liaison between the program and university leadership

Qualifications:

Required:
- At least 5 years of experience working in a research laboratory.

Preferred:
- 2 years of managing research staff engaged in cancer or cancer-related projects is strongly preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience working with preclinical MRI and in a nuclear medicine and/or molecular imaging laboratory.
- Prior experience working with laboratory animals.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- The candidate must have strong communication and customer service skills.

Full Time: 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.

Salary:

Minimum $75,000 ANNUAL (12 months)

The starting salary for the position is $75k but is negotiable based on experience and qualifications. Additional Information:

University sponsorship is not available for this position, including transfers of sponsorship and TN visas.
