Product Design Engineer - 8+ years of experience

Hardware Engineering Team

This is a 6-month, full-time (40 hours/week), hybrid (3 days on-site) contract role located in Cupertino, CA.

Summary:
Support the hardware engineering team by designing innovative mechanical solutions for product development. Contribute to the creation of high-quality consumer electronics by collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and design functions.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- 2+ years of experience in mechanical design or product development

- Passion for consumer electronics with a strong foundation in mechanical intuition, spatial reasoning, and creative problem solving

- Proficient in 3D CAD (any platform); familiarity with 2D drafting and GD&T is a plus

- Familiar with statics, strength of materials, material science, and statistics

- Skilled in collaborating with cross-functional teams and external vendors

- Able to work independently and manage multiple design tasks simultaneously

- Flexible and adaptable to changing technical constraints and priorities

- Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills with exceptional attention to detail

- Motivated, curious, and hands-on in problem-solving with a passion for design
Job Description:
In this role, you will provide mechanical design support for hardware products.

You'll partner with cross-functional engineering teams and manufacturing partners to optimize designs for function, aesthetic, and manufacturability. This includes:

  • Using 2D and 3D CAD to communicate design intent, inspection needs, and test methods
  • Gaining deep technical understanding in areas outside your core expertise to develop integrated solutions
  • Participating in brainstorming, prototyping, failure analysis, and tolerance/stress evaluations
  • Designing mechanical components intended for high-volume manufacturing (molded, formed, and machined parts)


You will also support ongoing design documentation and testing activities that ensure alignment with internal standards and production readiness.
Education:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field

- Background in mechanical systems, manufacturing design, or product development

- Experience with mass production design and mechanical integration is a plus

This opportunity is located in Cupertino, CA and requires hybrid work (on-site Tuesday-Thursday, remote Monday & Friday)

The pay for this W-2 position ranges from $115 - $120 per hour

This position may be eligible for PTO, health and dental insurance, and/or 401(k) benefits upon meeting certain length of service and hours requirements.
