Summary of Position: The Student Inclusion Specialist collaborates with the Manager of Student Equity Initiatives to advance inclusion and community within The Student Place of Action, Culture, & Empowerment (The SPACE), focusing on supporting underserved students. Responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive programming that cultivates cultural humility, builds peer connections, and prepares students for future success, the specialist designs innovative initiatives that center student identities and amplify diverse perspectives. Through intentional programming, marketing, and community engagement, this role advocates for inclusion by providing personalized support, connecting students to campus resources, and cultivating a campus environment that celebrates individual strengths.


This is a hybrid eligible position that would allow for 1 day a week working from home after the training period.

Essential Functions

1. Maintain and uphold the College values of Learning, Excellence, Accountability, Diversity, Student Success, Teamwork, Integrity, and Respect. Regular attendance is required.

2. Perform office function's which may include, but are not limited to: respond to internal/external customers and staff; create and modify documents, records, and reports using College standard software; maintain hard copy and/or electronic filing system; monitor inventory and budget information; schedule, coordinate, and prepare materials for meetings and/or appointments.

3. Complete all required College training and responsible for maintaining the skills necessary to complete the essential functions of the position as defined by the department.

4. Student Success is the cornerstone of Western's culture and the college may assign employees as needed to other areas or additional duties to foster this success.

5. Student Programming - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Assist in developing a calendar of events, planning timelines, budgeting for student programming each term
  • Assist with the development and implementation of student programming that honors identity, fosters meaningful community connections, and demonstrates deep commitment to cultural humility
  • Engage with student organizations to co-create inclusive campus initiatives that amplify diverse perspectives, build intercultural competence, and strengthen community connections
  • Assist with data collection and program evaluation of The SPACE initiatives
  • Develop and implement comprehensive internal promotion marketing strategies, managing digital platforms and social media accounts to effectively promote student programming, highlight SPACE services, and showcase community events centered on identity, community, and belonging
  • Oversee the logistics and operational support of student programming events
  • Research current trends and best practices related to underserved student populations and social issues
  • Provide educational trainings, events, and presentations to increase student awareness of identity and cultural humility
  • Coordinate inventory for student hygiene and hunger basket initiatives

6. The SPACE Operations & Student Development - Supporting Action/Task May Include:

  • Support and mentor students by providing resources, referrals, and fostering an inclusive environment to deepen engagement and promote success.
  • Serve as a responsive point of contact, promptly addressing information requests and actively
  • Represent the department at campus and community events to strengthen institutional visibility and engagement

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in related field OR
  • Education in related field combined with related occupational experience totaling 2 years OR
  • Related occupational expiring totaling 2 years



Special Instructions/About Western

This position reports to: Manager - Student Equity Initiatives

Starting hourly salary range based on education and experience: $23.61 - $29.70

This position would include competitive salary, along with a wide variety of benefits available to full-time Western Technical College Employees.
