SUMMARY OF JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND REQUIREMENTS JOB TITLE: Accounting Policy Manager REQUISITION ID: ACC001N DEPARTMENT: External Reporting, Policy and Property Accounting LOCATION: Kansas City, MO PAY RANGE: Accounting Policy Mgr: $107,900 - $143,800 Scheduled Work Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (Additional hours as required) Summary of Primary Duties and Responsibilities: Evergy is seeking an Accounting Policy Manager with strong technical accounting skills and ability to research and interpret complex accounting issues. Primary responsibility for research and documentation of current and emerging accounting issues. This includes developing strategic alternatives for new accounting policies and recommending treatment in response to new accounting standards or emerging issues. Provide technical guidance on complex accounting matters, coordinate/communicate with operations and accounting personnel, and assure consistency and compliance with GAAP and authoritative guidance. Provide interactive support of the timely and accurate filing of SEC and other regulatory reports involving the company's financial statements and related disclosures. Duties and Responsibilities: * Performs timely review and research of new accounting literature and determines the effects on the company of new pronouncements. Completes management research papers that describe accounting/disclosure implications, provide recommendations for implementation and assist with external auditor communications. Present and discuss strategic alternatives in response to the new guidance to senior management. * Implements new accounting disclosure/accounting standards. This includes partnering with personnel in various departments to implement required system/process changes to ensure accurate accounting and reporting. Also coordinates with others in the accounting department to implement required accounting and reporting changes. * Follows the activities of accounting standard-setting groups, coordination or preparation of the company's response to proposed, relevant accounting pronouncements and regulatory requirements to articulate and support the best strategic alternative to the Company as it pertains to accounting and financial reporting. * Maintain advanced knowledge of GAAP and regulatory requirements. * Completion of the annual GAAP/SEC checklist including review and/or coordination with other departments for completion of the checklist. * Interactive participation in the timely and accurate filing of SEC and other regulatory reports involving the company's financial statements and disclosures, including developing disclosures required due to new or emerging accounting standards. * Educates the company's accounting department personnel as well as other affected personnel on new accounting standards and implementation of new accounting pronouncements. * Analyzes, evaluates, researches, documents and provides accounting guidance in response to accounting inquiries from throughout the company on various transactions/issues/proposals/matters. * Supports Evergy's business objectives by ensuring accounting inquiries are responded to completely, timely and accurately. * Improve efficiency by developing/cultivating initiatives and recommending/implementing process improvement activities for efficient, value-add research, accounting and disclosure processes.
Education and Experience Requirements: * Bachelor's degree with an accounting major * CPA * At least 8 years of financial reporting experience, accounting policy or technical accounting at an SEC registrant, or public accounting experience * Preferred qualifications include an advanced degree and energy industry experience Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required: * Excellent knowledge of US GAAP * Experience researching and documenting support for accounting conclusions * Ability to understand and dissect complex transactions * Ability to document technical accounting positions * Strong communication skills including written and oral presentation skills with an ability to interact at different levels of the organization * Excellent time management and organization skills * Detail oriented and self-motived Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: CPA Working Conditions: In office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with the option to work remote on Monday and Friday.
