Gundersen Health System, based in La Crosse, Wis., is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join the Pain Medicine Department. The practice is outpatient clinic based, seeing a combination of follow up and new patients. The department focuses on interventional treatments to assist in patients' pain. The Pain Medicine department works as an interdisciplinary team comprised of two to four physicians, two physician assistant, two nurse practitioners, and multiple registered nurses and medical assistants to evaluate and treat patients with acute and chronic painful conditions. Day to day work consists of clinic visits, options to perform select office-based injections, co-management of devices such as spinal cord stimulators and intrathecal pumps. Safety and efficacy of chronic opioid prescribing is also a component of day-to-day work as well as coordinating conservative interventions for a chronic pain. The pain medicine department is located within the division of Neurosciences at Gundersen, and includes collaboration with Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Chiropractic care, and Neuropsychology. Call responsibilities are minimal and take place during work hours, offering a great work/life balance. Providing care to those in our regional communities is supported with multiple outreach clinics available with coverage shared amongst the interdisciplinary team. Staff can choose to balance their time by working either 8- or 10-hour shifts.
