About the College/Unit/Department
UGA Online is the University of Georgia's online program and course development and marketing unit. Our mission is to:

  • Partner with academic units to identify, develop, launch, and market high-quality graduate programs that align with UGA's academic strengths, meet workforce needs, and fit in areas of market demand.
  • Support online student recruitment and retention efforts with student communications and services, as well as data-driven advertising.
  • Partner with academic departments and faculty to create online summer undergraduate courses that help undergraduates graduate in four years or less.
  • Generally, promote quality and innovation in online learning university-wide.


We have four teams to accomplish this mission: Instructional Design, Marketing, the Media Cooperative shared with the Center for Teaching and Learning, and Student Services and State Authorization.

Minimum Qualifications
Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field. Please contact your Human Resources office for an evaluation of education/experience in lieu of the required minimum qualifications.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in instructional technology, learning design, education, information technology, or a related field.
  • At least five years of experience managing, supporting, and evaluating learning technologies in a higher education environment.

    • Working with a learning management system (preferably Brightspace) and related instructional technology tools.
    • Experience leading technology implementation projects, including planning, coordination, and assessment of outcomes.
    • Supervisory experience
    • Knowledge of accessibility standards (such as WCAG)




Position Summary
The Learning Technologies Manager supports the University of Georgia's growing online learning initiatives by managing, expanding, and optimizing learning technologies within the Office of Online Learning. This position oversees the day-to-day support of technology tools, collaborates with campus partners to ensure system integration and alignment, and leads the evaluation and procurement of new solutions to enhance the online learning experience. The manager supervises and mentors staff, develops user training and support resources, and ensures that technologies meet accessibility and usability standards. Through leadership, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous improvement, the Learning Technologies Manager advances the Office's mission to foster high-quality, accessible online education at UGA.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

  • Knowledge of Learning Technologies: Understanding of learning management systems (preferably Brightspace) and related educational technologies to support online learning environments.
  • Technology Management and Procurement: Ability to manage, maintain, and evaluate learning technologies, including contributing to procurement, implementation, and lifecycle planning.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Strong collaboration skills and the ability to supervise, mentor, and lead a team focused on technology support and innovation.
  • Project and Process Management: Ability to coordinate projects, manage multiple priorities, and develop processes that enhance technology services for online learning.
  • Training and Support: Skill in designing and delivering user-focused training, support resources, and documentation.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical information to diverse audiences.
  • Commitment to Accessibility and Best Practices: Knowledge of accessibility standards and learning design principles to support high-quality online education.

Technology Management, Evaluation, and Procurement

  • Manage and support learning technologies used by the Office of Online Learning, including tools integrated with the learning management system (Brightspace) and other instructional platforms.
  • Collaborate with campus partners responsible for the management and administration of Brightspace to support integrations, troubleshoot issues, and advocate for enhancements that benefit online programs.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies to identify opportunities to improve online teaching and learning; conduct needs assessments, pilot programs, and usability testing as appropriate.
  • Lead procurement processes for new or replacement technologies, including gathering requirements, evaluating vendor offerings, coordinating RFPs or similar processes, and supporting contract management.
  • Develop and maintain internal documentation related to the administration, support, and use of Office-supported technologies.
  • Coordinate upgrades, integrations, and system changes for supported tools, working with campus IT and vendors to ensure successful implementation.
  • Serve as Domain Name Liaison (DNL) for the Office of Online Learning.

Leadership, Supervision, and Collaboration

  • Provide leadership in the development and delivery of learning technology services that support the growth and success of UGA's online learning initiatives.
  • Supervise and mentor professional staff and/or student employees, including hiring, onboarding, training, performance evaluation, and professional development planning.
  • Foster a collaborative, service-oriented environment by building strong partnerships with faculty, instructional designers, academic departments, and other campus stakeholders.
  • Represent the Office of Online Learning in institutional committees, working groups, and other collaborations related to learning technologies and online education.
  • Collaborate closely with campus IT services, the Center for Teaching and Learning, Accessibility & Testing, and other units to ensure technology initiatives are aligned with institutional goals and user needs.
  • Contribute to strategic planning for online learning technology initiatives, providing input on priorities, resource needs, and service improvements.

  • Collaborate with internal staff, faculty, campus IT, and external vendors to ensure successful execution of technology projects and minimize disruption to teaching and learning.
  • Monitor project progress, proactively identify risks or obstacles, and adjust plans as necessary to ensure goals are met.
  • Document project activities and outcomes, maintaining clear records to support knowledge sharing, reporting, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure alignment of projects with the strategic goals of the Office of Online Learning and the broader online education initiatives at UGA.

  • Monitor performance and user experience for learning technologies supported by the Office, coordinating with vendors and campus IT units as needed to address technical or functional issues.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Online Learning Quality and Analytics team to gather and analyze feedback from faculty, staff, and students to assess the effectiveness of supported technologies and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Advocate for continuous improvement based on user feedback and emerging best practices, ensuring that learning technologies evolve to meet the needs of a growing online learning community.
  • Stay informed about trends and advancements in online education technologies, accessibility standards, and usability practices to guide service enhancements and innovation.

  • Develop and deliver training sessions, workshops, and materials to support faculty, staff, and students in the effective use of learning technologies supported by the Office.
  • Create and maintain clear, user-friendly documentation, guides, and knowledge base resources to assist users in navigating supported technologies.
  • Provide consultation and support to faculty and staff seeking to integrate learning technologies into online course design and delivery.
  • Collaborate with instructional designers and academic departments to promote best practices for technology use in online teaching and learning.
